Hi all, we're about to start a trial of the new 500 metre rainfall radar data (current radar resolution is 1km), and I thought I'd share it on the community prior to it going 'officially' live on Monday.

It's open to all Extra subscribers, and is very similar to the V6 radar but with one or two features taken out for the time being. We'll be running the trial until the end of September, and in that time we're really keen to hear as much feedback as possible. So please let us know how you find it, and whether it's something you think you'd like to use on an ongoing basis, either here in this thread or from the link on the page.

Thanks

Hi Paul that sounds intriguing, you've chosen a great week to launch the trial! Will certainly take a look tomorrow.

Cheers Andy, must admit we did hold off last week as launching a radar trial in the middle of the driest spell for months wouldn't have been a plan :D

Yes, does look like more clarity on the radar, certainly a bonus to the radar...Great stuff :)

Sounds like an exciting development!

Reading Anyweather's post is the link meant to be live now? as I get

'SUBSCRIPTION:3

Sorry but you do not have access to this area'

Oops - will fix that now...

Edit - should now be working, was setup for full and lite, but not for radar extra initially, sorry about that!

I am liking the looks of this and will be trying it out tomorrow if I can get out and about among the showers after work.

No worries and thanks

There's some interesting downpours around down here this evening so fancied a peak! :D does look very good compared to the 1km version.

Nice. Rainfall still shows up much better with the old NW scale than the new ones. Would be nice to have a scale for the rainfall which is missing on the new versions V6 and this one which is one of the reasons why I still use the old radar.

Thanks TP, you can show the scale on there + the v6, by hitting the 'show scale' button underneath the scale selection menu on the right (or beneath the radar on mobile).

I like the more detailed resolution, definitely. :)

Looking at the 13:05 update (I've only just renewed my subscription, so haven't looked at previous times) the first smaller scale image looks incorrect, but I think as I zoom in it's fine (and ties in with the heavy rain currently being experienced)

Thanks Steve

I noticed this earlier and it then fixed itself before I could screen grab it, I'll feed it back to the techies.

Really good difference in this type of showery scenario!

working fine on samsung galaxy s3 mini - but cannot really see the difference between this radar and the old one - even when I zoom in. If someone can point me in the right direction of what the USP of this radar compared with the old one is I would be grateful
