A few strikes near Kidderminster as well. Could the Midlands be coming into play I wonder? As for yours truly, my eyes now being drawn towards the area of light/moderate rain coming out of Northern Ireland towards Anglesey and my neck of the woods..game over. Only April though, plenty of time yet.

Looks like the convergence zone is the real aid here. Fairly dull here now but some dark cloud bases still.

I think the problem today was some areas managed some lengthy spells of sun whiles others in the risk area didn't although the sun now maybe coming out peak heating is now over..

The day hasn't finished...

Period of peak heating is not 'over'  Takes a while to lose radiation and for heating to subside (not until evening), so deep convection and storm risk lasting a while yet.

Edit: Just saw a strike to my north from that cell...

Sheffield shield working with ease with what little thundery activity there is and every quickly shredded into light showers.

Temps should soon start falling so main risk over fort those who have missed out.

  1. Showers across Wales now moving W-E as opposed to SW-NE earlier. Persistent Rain to the Northwest edging closer.

Just got home. Unfortunately didn't get any thunder but went through lots of heavy showers. As a reward, I saw some beautiful Cumulonimbus clouds on the way back from Plymouth!

With little shear in the atmosphere today storms or showers were bound to be pulsy in nature.

As MP-R has pointed out, I was quite shocked that there was no lightning anywhere in the SW of England today. I'm not sure went wrong with all of the forecasts...

Lack of sufficient insolation I'd say. Noticed the usual places such as east mids and Lincs saw the sferics as usual. Was quite a bit of blue sky and sunshine for sufficient convective aid too up that way.

Plenty of opportunity in the foreseeable it looks like though, plus the whole summer yet :D

I've done quite a few chases MP-R trying to capture a funnel, landspout, tornado or water spout over 3 years at least but they have all alluded me. I guess they just happen when they happen and you get lucky when you get lucky!
