yep very little thunder at all around today and the band of most heavy showers has now cleared to the north with the ones further south not in any particular hurry to follow and also with shortening days the process of sunset will be beginning relatively soon which should knock what little thunder activity there is on the head , I know I shouldn't be mentioning sunset at 15:15 but I do like these shortenng days not the long ones of summer but I'm drifting off topic

Mods -  please delete my above post.     Num lock was turned on by the grandchild - and I didn't realise.

Anyway what I was saying was that we had recorded 21.7 mms of rain so far in the last 24 hrs  - and most of it since midday today.

PS Its just about to start again now!! Torrential but no sign of thunder (yet!)

met office site has heavy rain or showers through the evening and overnight and also a risk of thunder during the evening but if we didn't get any thunder during the day when the instability was higher more higher temperatures higher cape and so forth and so on which the GFS preditcts to be all but gone by 6pm cape and LI that is rain probably thunder very doubtful in my opinion

Ah well such is the nature of showers that some areas will always do a lot better or worse than others!

Been a dry afternoon here with some sunshine and feeling very mild again for the time of year!

not stalling as such, just spinning around the low pressure centre currently over the west country

You'd struggle to make up how the heavy showers or anything with interesting intensity has missed here.. Virtually all went just to the east yesterday, mainly just to the west early this morning, then all to the east along with forming a few miles north of us today.. The few coming this way were the ones that died out.

Now it has all ground to a halt with us in a hole with nothing happening while showers spring up everywhere else lol.

You really aren't missing out on anything today.

In fact that should be a new slogan for the UK tourist board:

"Welcome to Great Britain! You really aren't missing out on anything today"

not stalling as such, just spinning around the low pressure centre currently over the west country

Would this be the eye of the low? Edited by Flash bang flash bang etc

Would this be the eye of the low?

Almost certainly. Zoom to BA12 if you have the NW radar and check it out.

LOW centre must be right over E.Somerset and W/SW Wiltshire right now judging by radar shower movements going anticlockwise around in a circle with quite an obvious gap between Warminster-Shepton Mallet (East-West of circle diameter) and Wincanton-Bath (South to North of circle diameter).

How much can people bet that those showers over central Devon will completely die out before hitting Newton Poppleford? £50?

I would have said the same thing back earlier in the year, but as this year has turned out to be such a let down so far it just doesn't even bother me anymore.

Its got to the point where every time a risk of thunder has been forecast, I just ignore it or say quietly to myself 'yep well that won't happen!'
