The question is, are any of the English teams going to take it seriously?

Southampton have tactically dropped out already, how long before Liverpool and Spurs relieve themselves of the "burden" of the Europa league?

Proof? Seems to me, they were keen to go through but unfortunately for them, they lost their 2nd leg game thus never qualified.

Unless they completely change their teams, then I would believe them 2 teams will take it seriously especially when you consider, it could be their best chance to qualify for the Champions League.

I have none. I guess it's just the cynic in me. :)

With that being said, how often do we hear about English teams blaming the EL for a lack of results in the Premier league, not always directly but in a round-about way? It's often implied that it's not much more than an (relatively) unprofitable distraction from the important business - the Premier league; one that just tires the players from fixture congestion and travelling.

Everton last season are a prime example of the "Europa league effect".

Conversely, other European teams seem to embrace the competition, with Sevilla in particular having a very strong pedigree and have reaped the rewards with a CL space, whereas, in my opinion, English teams just think "why bother?"

It's funny how the tops clubs' players don't all die of exhaustion, what with all the CL matches they have to play in?

Exactly, but then again there is far more prestige, and bigger bucks, in the CL...

European football leaders have discussed the possibility of creating a third club competition.

At a meeting of the 54 UEFA members on Wednesday, they explored the merits of a new competition for teams that fail to advance from the qualifying rounds for the second-tier Europa League.

Another 'load of crap': 68% possession. But, other than that - the same old waste-of-time! :wallbash:  :wallbash:

Things are not looking good for Celtic losing 2-1 at home to Molde and 3 points off 2nd with just 2 games left

As for Liverpool its looking much better currently 2nd if they beat Bordeaux in 3 weeks they'll be through to the knockout stage
