Phil Avery on the national forecast the other night took the cloud off as he wanted to show where the snow would be even the forecasters can see the issue between cloud and snow surely that is something they need to fix before next winter

But hey at least the map is green right?

It's a shame that the BBC site has turned so poor. But things like this do make me laugh.

National BBC forecast made it look like today would be cloudy throughout in the NE

Local zoomed in forecast showed it would brighten up as the afternoon progressed

The local forecast was correct

Darren Bett admitting the graphics are showing too much snow on Tuesday hardly a surprise when they show temps of 6c to 12c

Yes it was the same this evening:

I think there needs to be a bit of work done on the physics?

Trying to work which model they are using as they keep going on about cold weather later this week. The only model showing anything was Gem model which has ditched idea now.

Whatever they use I suspect some backtracking will take place very soon even UKMO doesn't look that cold for the majority up to Good Friday

The forecasts could be spot on, but I just can't get away from the fact it looks crap.

We think they're using the EC "wintry precip" data on this, meaning it includes everything from 100% snow to a 1% snow-99% rain sleety mix. Either way, that just looks ludicrous.

Yup, at the moment I'm studying in a meteorological related field and my friends and family keep asking me 'is there another beast and snow coming?' based on these forecasts. It's crazy to think I've been able to give them more up to date forecasts then that one. The 'beast' had already disappeared from the ECM a day before. Unless the BBC know something we don't.

No wonder people get confused. I dread to think how bad these forecasts will be when its summer and convective showers are the main source of rainfall.

I feel sorry for the forecasters having to convey a message that seems to contradict what is shown behind them!

Finally  abit of back tracking on the Beeb forecast. Still notice too much snow being shown on the graphics but at least they are beginning to ditch the cold Easter idea. About 96hrs to late but better late than never. The forecast on the Beeb I'm afraid has got to have junk status awarded to it. I dunno if the ITV forecast uses more up todate weather than it used too but that's probably the one to use these days.

ITV and C5 are produced by the Met office so I'd guess they'll be better as they'll use UKMO

ECM has really struggled for a while now it must have taken it 6 runs to catch up with GFS and ditch the cold Easter

Even ICON picked it up before ECM

I see Phil is going against the graphics regarding tonight's snowfall on the BBC forecast via there website, Top man.

Aye he was almost apologetic about the extent of the snow being shown I thought...

I saw that too. The presence of snow graphics over the Midlands was nonsense!

Another disappointing example of the lower resolution graphics when zoomed out compared to higher resolution when zoomed in:

If they hadn’t decided to make the map so small then they would be able to show the high resolution graphics all of the time, as they did with the old graphics.

But at least Scotland is slightly bigger
