All the good ones have pretty much gone. Rob McElwee, Phil Avery, Peter Gibbs, now John Hammond. They're being removed for a team of Tomasz Schafernakers :(

I like Tomasz and don't find any of the others as interesting as him. We're left with a bunch of dullards now bar Helen Willett.

The main forecasters at the beeb who are believed to be employed by the met office are; John Hammond, Alex Deakin, Thomasz Schafernaker, Helen Willetts and Louise Lear

John Hammond is leaving and Alex Deakin left last year

Rob's still at AJE, although he's back in the UK for a couple of weeks at the mo. I'm working with him on an antique double-decker bus (probably this one:

RML 2335, CUV 335C, AEC Routemaster (t.2013)

at the weekend. Yay!! )

They are now all BBC employees. Their contracts were transferred.

As far as I'm aware, Nick, Phil is still there. Or has he left in the last couple of weeks?

Not sure that is true yet, Most of those were Met Office staff (for decades) and would be transfered over to the new data/forecast provider whenever that does occur. Those who don't want to move could apply for another post within the Met Office, like Alex D seems to have done.

John Hammond leaving, no way!!!.He was the best one.  I will miss his "I'll update you again tomorrow" line at the end of his week ahead forecasts.

Hope he makes a comes back, they sometimes do.

Shame to see John Hammond gone as others have said, very skilled at his job! Never fluffs his lines, explains things well, and doesn't add unnecessary waffle like Tomasz Schaernaker likes to do. There are still a few of the old guard left too.

As an aside, I'm not overly keen on the broadcasters we have on Look East, I much preferred Paul Hudson for the weather forecasts when I lived in Yorkshire! Alex Dolan splutters too much and Chris Bell has the weirdest accent you can imagine. Dan Holley isn't too bad, and Julie Reinger is ok as well.....but nothing compared to the national forecasters.

We try our best :hi:

Agree though, it's a shame John is leaving - but can understand why after doing shift work for such a long time. I'm sure we'll (hopefully) see him again somewhere in the not-too-distant future.
