Very slow moving storms roughly 20 miles west of me fingers crossed they psss nearer to me

In Peterborough travelling to Spalding earlier, went through an amazing hailstorm with freak strong winds swaying my car! Was unreal! Let's hope that lot comes over us soon

Reports of what looked like a Tornado in Kent today, can anybody confirm??

Possible sighting from A299 dual carriageway near Herne Bay

Possible funnel clouds near Canterbury, but look less convincing and maybe just rising scud:

Currently getting a pasting from that area around Leeds heading south. Torrential rain.

Skies have gotten a little angry looking as a torrential shower approaches. We've stayed dry here but we could get a drenching soon looking at the skies/radar.

Yes, certainly packs a punch - rain wise anyway

Looks likely to scrape just past us. Great cloudscapes nevertheless. Should be a great sunset.

Looks so eerie outside here, gone really dark and the sky has a sort of gold tinge to it!

Yes watched that cell develop too. Saw the base become slowly shrouded as the rain started to fall. We've stayed dry though here :)

Nice convective skies during sunset...

That heavy shower over South Yorkshire has formed next to doncaster. Weird structure!

Hmmm, nowhere near as much rain as forecast, no thundery downpours either. Not the wettest day by any means ans nothing really more to come on the radar.

same here, 2hrs of light rain from 1-3pm. Raining again now but coming from the NE rather than the south. Probably not more than a couple of mm today so far.

WOW just had crazy rain near Rotherham about an hour ago. The sky was fantastic. I was on M18, Jc 1 and it was very impressive. The rain was absolutely torrential, I had the wipers on speed 3 and still couldnt cope. Saw 2 flashes of lightning and thunder but the rain was the main event. Everywhere was flooded under a few inches of water. What a great few days of weather its been :D

Any prospects for later today? (Tuesday)

Not thinking so to be honest - some marginal potential across S/E Ireland this afternoon as well as a tongue of marginal instability running across S England.

Tomorrow looking again marginal across SE quarter of England - potential for some very heavy rainfall and the odd isolated spark I would suggest.

Sat/Sun looking interesting (tentatively) with a relative weak plume of unstable area running in from the south. Given the highly changeable, complex system of LP systems at the moment, I'm taking it with all due caution at this stage.

Just need a bit more westward correction on top of what has been happening on this possible plume event.

I counted it out a day or so ago, but it has us just about tapping into the juice now. Pinch of salt taken for the moment on this though.

Yes Sunday afternoon/evening has the potential to be a repeat of last Saturday if things go to plan. Still a long way to go but at T120 (5 days) away things will firm up quickly or we'll be put out of our misery soon :)

GFS 12z tonight looks good anyway, a mini plume of high 850s and then the CAPE and LI charts show a spike over England as we go through the day and into the evening on the 30th:

Fingers crossed! :)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
