The "gota fria" - not climate change, just normal weather. Chill...people die in floods. We get used to it but hate the loss of life...RIP

Why do I choose to holiday in Spain during September? Here is your answer. Aside from the severe consequences and catastrophic flooding, this is absolutely breathtakingly phenomenal. About as constant as lightning can possibly get.

The first of two videos recorded in Fuengerola, Spain in the early hours of 14/09/2019, I have never experienced a storm like it, constant rolling thunder and lightning every 2-3 seconds. When the rain arrived the lightning would continue but the thunder fell silent (very odd), but the rain was biblical at times. In total the storm lasted for approx 3-4 hours on and off and I have another 30 minute video which is currently uploading.

Two of them!,i thought ball lightning is singular

to me it looks like a reflection in the window of sorts,if you play it back again you will see some other white dot to the left of it a couple of times.

but saying that,it looks like it is filmed outside,mmm!!!

My thoughts too. Two of them is very odd. My only other suggestion is a drone. Someone perhaps trying to capture some decent footage? So many questions lol. 

What a year the Mediterranean has had for storms though. Adriatic back in summer, and now the classic early autumn Spanish beasts. Seen many a cracker down the Balearics in September.

You might of hit the nail on the head there but does a drone sweep side to side like that?

I'm on board with the Drone theory, they're everywhere these days so it's probably someone filming the storm with one.

 

On the other hand, Aliens admiring our weather would be cooler. ;)

I have just watched some footage of drones flying at night and it to me looks like a drone on that clip i posted,the two lights are the rear lights of a drone,so that settles it then i guess.

I know this isn't a European storm but i just wanted to post this to match what Spain had earlier

i have watched this quiet a few times a never get bored of it,the sound from 3:20 is unreal,watch.

As I said earlier in the Spain weather thread, this is nothing unusual for septembre. It's a "gota fria". We've got the opposite here in Limousin - making my roquette seeds sprout and the hose has been left out - searingly hot for septembre. 34c yesterday (max on the village thermometre), could get to 40c in my sheltered abode. Just when the warmer clothes were got out too! Mylo already chilling in the shade and water play bucket about to be refilled. Our biggest worry is the lack of water. No sig rain for freakin' months. Storms progged for next week - but we have a storm shield in our valley. We get the fireworks - a great display over the hills - but no rain.

I'm not sure what has happened in Spain was a true gota fria, given the 'cold' connotation of air origin. Was there an Atlantic origin to the air? Cold drops occur from a jet stream cut off of cold upper air that drops south through the Bay of Biscay. I was in Barcelona in July 2011 (not a typical time for such an event) when this happened and not only was there a significant temperature drop, but also a series of thunderstorms and wind. 

The events of the last week seemed to start from an MCS moving up from north Africa and intensifying over the warm seas of the Mediterranean.

Thanks for sharing that, it was incredible watching with bassy headphones! One of the best videos I've ever watched in terms of close thunder

Unfortunately, with extreme weather, there is inevitably going to be casualties. The entire SE portion of Spain was clearly warned of this episode days in advance however. If you choose to be outdoors, refuse to evacuate or make perilous journeys within the time of a RED alert for extreme rainfall, giant hail and severe winds, Then you cannot say you were not warned. 

That does not mean to say that we should all not be able to enjoy the breathtaking displays that Mother Nature throws at us. I have a right to choose somewhere to holiday in order to have a chance of possibly viewing some severe storms. I’m sorry if that may hurt some people’s feelings, but I am not going to suspend or cancel a stormchasing trip or holiday for it. 

A flippant comment from yourself yet again.

My heart goes out to those who have died and the families. The same as it does whenever anyone becomes a victim of extreme weather.

Nice cg just now behind the building on the Asissi cam,the lightning really ramping up now.

need the wind to do one though.
