The electrical activity here in Haute Vienne was distant but intense and very lovely to watch - Mylo and I took a walk at about 2230 and there was 360 flashing over the hills and some great CGs in the distance. It had been an exceptional day, one of those with a hot breeze and teperatures well into the mid-30s and we'd been out for a long and lovely cycle ride late afternoon and we could see the CBs building when we were on our way back. The main event for us was around midnight, just after we had gone to bed. The wind started getting really strong and it sounded like the closed shutters were going to get ripped off the walls - then came an almighty whooshing sound followed by an equally almighty crash. We raced downstairs and then went carefully out the basement doors to find our porch roof lying in the back garden having been literally sucked off by the wind. It is/was a completely enclosed porch so there is no other explanation we can think of. Further down the road there were two or three bins in the fields which would have had to jump hedges and gates to get there!

One to watch - Severe Weather EU have flagged up the potential for an intense Medicane (tropical-like cyclone) to develop in the Ionian sea on Friday that could grow into a strong CAT1 or even a CAT2 strength cyclone and impact Greece over the weekend.

windyty takes the 'Medicane' further westwards towards Sicily and looping towards the Libyan coastline before dissipating over Crete. It's a interesting 48hr ahead to see how intense this system becomes.

So if the waters are warm enough to make this tropical why would it not be a named Hurricane?

Latest update (27th Sept) from Severe Weather EU on the imminent Medicane. Sounding very nasty for folk down there.

Fresh model update on the developing Medicane: as indicated in previous model runs, there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the potential track of the deep cyclone in the southern Mediterranean this weekend. Model guidance is now trending towards a more southerly track of the Medicane than what was anticipated in yesterday model runs. The Medicane may even hit Crete on late Saturday and WSW Turkey on Sunday, after nearing Peloponnese earlier. An intense cyclone is confirmed – severe wind and life-threatening flash floods threat are expected in some areas!

Crete is going to get hammered! I just hope the heavy rains miss Athens as the city is very prone to flash floods especially after the recent fires.
