Was flying to Tenerife today and could see some decent CBs and Turkey towers in the distance that way. Not sure how far you can see from 37000 feet but certainly that way. I guess I was flying over Spain then.

From FL 370 you can see approximately  280 to 300 miles , I would  imagine  you could see a full grown cumulonimbus  incus  as far away as 600 miles

You definitely would not be able to see Turkey from there!

But flying definitely offers a unique view of the clouds.

I reckon I was seeing it as it was maturing. I enjoyed seeing them in the distance even though I was on the isle seat of the 3. I suspect not many would have realised. Thanks for the info, that is interesting.

Haha Lauren.

Can remember  taking off from Manchester  and seeing a supercell way off in the distance  which was over central France also flying back from the US via Belgium  over the isle of Wight  I could see way off the broken teeth of the alps silhouetted  against the sunrise

Still rattling around Sicily this morning. Huge all nighter storms in the region. Some good sound and strikes on this one.

This was flying out of Barcelona last night. Possibly the same storm.

The entire West coast of Italy is going mad on lightningmaps. Annoyingly can't watch any webcams as am at work.

Just got hammered here near Cordoba Spain. Temp dropped 10c in 5 minutes to 28c, huge hailstones lots of incloud lightening and thunder. The rain was so heavy, we have been mopping up as the rain was pouring down the chimney flooding the living room and coming under the front door

What is it with the Sicily area at the moment? Seems to be a storm magnet.

I'm off to St-Maxime in South France for a week on friday - anyone with an expert eye care to advise if I have a chance of seeing something?
