 Not meant to ramp up till later and no.. It's not going to be anything special other than a bit of wind and rain..

But considering this will be the most rain in one day (if over 20mm) I will have had from about March it's pretty significant

Gusts only 180 mph here, counting myself lucky lol.

Bit of rain won't hurt, a few tree branches ruffled in the wind and by tomorrow most of it will be gone. Sunday on the other hand? Back to square one with heavier pulses of rain moving across in a fresh to strong breeze.

first one has slight risk hit us on the rotation.  However the large rainfall on the live radar near Bristol looks more north than predicted slightly might clip here on the top, but hard to tell direction.   Ireland got nasty one too to watch its track.

However the second system forecast to  give us heavy rain sunday.

Possible Amber later from the met for East England..

Issued at:
0949 on Fri 24 Jul 2015

Valid from:
1200 on Fri 24 Jul 2015

Valid to:
1100 on Sat 25 Jul 2015

Areas of rain, often heavy, and strengthening winds will cross much of southern England today (Friday), persisting overnight in the east, before clearing on Saturday morning.

This is an update of yesterday's warning, advising of an increased likelihood of localised flooding, especially across southeast England and East Anglia, where the warning may yet be escalated to Amber. These areas are also most likely to be affected by northerly gales, with winds gusting to 45 mph inland and around 55 mph along coasts.

The public should be aware of the potential for disruption, particularly affecting those travelling or engaged in outdoor holiday activities. An area of low pressure will run northeastwards close to southern England today (Friday), deepening into quite an intense feature for the time of year, before clearing to the east early on Saturday.

While there remain some uncertainties in the track and intensity of this low pressure system, there is now an increased probability of a developed feature bringing disruptive rain and wind, particularly across the east of the area. More than 30 mm is expected quite widely but with the likelihood now that some areas could well see more than 70 mm of rain. The combination of factors brings the risk of disruption to outdoor activities and heavy holiday traffic.

This warning may still be updated later today, as further information becomes available.

Crikey, this is some of the heaviest prologned rain I've seen in a long time!

30mm of rain is enough to cause flooding trust me, several main roads were cut off earlier in the year after receiving  just under that amount.

Imagine what 70mm can do! nearly 3 inches!

Nearly 30mm In North Devon now :O

Makes it even funnier the local council are supposed to be resurfacing the road today and have covered all the drains up in preparation for that :wallbash:

Well,Well! An amber warning possibly for SE England and East Anglia.

Unusual at any time of year.

It seems the Low is taking 'the least likely' track as highlighted by yesterdays Met office yellow warning, meaning much more 'umph' for rainfall totals and wind speeds in the East.

An interesting 24hrs ahead.

Only 17.4 mm of rain has fallen here so far today, still enough to cause rivers on roads and localised surface water flooding.

I did email them yesterday to question their 'sanity' but got the usual standard email in response. "We will reply to you within 10 days of receipt of this email". Will keep an eye on it and if it gets too bad will just go out there and take the covers of  myself :diablo:

What worries me is they fact that it hasn't really rained here for months, just the odd sprinkle that did nothing. All heavy rain will do is run off over ground straight away. So it's very possible the flooding could be quite bad.

2 to 3 inches could fall quite widely in the S/E of England, flooding will likely be an issue in probe locations. With the ground baked hard by drought like conditions persisting since March. Accompanied with some gales not really on the disruptive side I'd say Met Office are paying closer attention to rainfall totals. Would be fabulous if we got something like this in winter bumping into established cold air. :D

well it was raining moderate and steady but now very heavy ,and with some even heavier bursts now showing on the radar .

also noticed over the last hour or so the back edge gradually slowing down ,wouldn,t be surprised to hear some reports of local flooding issues and if all of this gets a good wrap around could be some moderate flooding further east later today ,cheers all .

Up to 19.6 mm of rain so far today here. Rain is starting to ease off now but it has been one hell of a morning in terms of rainfall!

Some warm/humid air (theta-w 16C) getting drawn in and wrapped up into the low over NW France, lots of energy and combine this with the lift of the low and PVA ahead of dry air intrusion of shortwave trough (seen on WV imagery) and we have thunderstorms breaking out just ahead of the cold front:

Be interesting to see if this strong convection makes landfall across the south later, certainly hints from models it will across the SE corner this evening, as the convective activity will enhance the rainfall rates and create a risk of flash flooding. Models hinting at 50-70mm over SE England and E Anglia before the rain clears in the morning.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
