Nothing of interest here except for drizzle...

Since I posted some charts on saturday things have changed enough to make me think nothing will happen of real interest today now.

I tend to agree, to be honest and I don't normally take the pessimistic approach to these thunder events. Maybe if we get the sun to break through it might be enough to set off a few very heavy showers, but there's just too much low cloud around here. I haven't seen one glimpse of the sun at all, so far today...

One thing that has stayed accurate and thats the low level cloud as temps and dewpoints are pretty close together. Seems that CAPE has faded out and LI positive in the main. Just a small area of modest CAPE over Island. Still a bit of wind convergence in the same area. The centre of the low is further east over the netherlands instead now as well.

There is a line of wind convergence across N England all the way from the Lancashire coast to the Lincolnshire coast and here there could be some convergence zone funnel clouds. There is also likely to be some heavy showers focused around this line too. It can already be seen in evidence, currently more developed on the eastern side. However, I think any thunder risk is unlikely today.

There may be a better chance of some thundery showers tomorrow late afternoon/evening across N England but even this is looking like a straw clutch.

Ok well the above post didn't come to fruition lol but I agree that tomorrow is looking better for Ireland and the west Midlands and perhaps continues across in an easterly direction. A trough will move across and steepen lapse rates in that area.

Risk of a few thunderstorms over Ireland and Wales later:

Not a big convective day ahead but there is some interest at least for my area for around tea time into the early evening. I have my camera ready.

Some heavier showers now developing over Leicester/Birmingham area and I just had a hail shower here in Cardiff, with more showers developing and the sun now reappearing, I have a slight interest in today's potential...

Theres some torrential rain over North Hull (>250mm/hr) but still dry here for the moment. Looks like it might just make it this way, no thunder yet though.

Edit: can hear thunder now.

Yes, we just had a torrential downpour, with a mix of hail.

Didn't hear any thunder at all though.

Very surprised there was not more thunder with those showers over Lincs. Some of them rainfall rates were very intense.

Next week looking good. Off to Paris on the 5th, and forecast to be 38c!! Should see some storms over there I'd say from the 5-9th August!

A few strikes with those showers moving across Cheshire, they may just skim me to the north.

I can just about see some distant anvils from the cells moving over Cheshire:

Nothing as exciting as anvils over here, but a few convective like showers and this cloud formation to my west... yum

Anvils to the south of me right now, forming along the convective-train coming out from Cheshire.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
