Just seen a cg from the 10th floor of my office in west London way of in the distance to the SE from a line of high but dark cloud hanging over the south of London/North Downs.

Can see a huge cumulonimbus to my south lit up by the setting sun, absolutely beautiful but its not heading my way, I have already had my fair share this year so I don't really mind others getting it haha.

Usual story here in Guildford. Looks like we'll make a third consecutive summer month of near misses in the most boring year ever experienced. Such a dry summer - what a waste when that Azores High could be a bit closer and the weather could be settled (like August 1976 /1990 / 2003) and the thunder-less / storm-less nature of the summer could be justified by some decent weather and not 'dry unsettled' conditions.

4 days of thunder heard in 2015 so far - all distant rumbles, none overhead. This time last year there had been 15 days by now and half of these thunder days were events that were noteworthy and not just 'one rumble wonders' or distant muffled thunder from repeated missed events. What a difference a year makes.

I've managed to get some still images from a video I took of this evening's thunderstorm. These were taken around the Chichester/Barnham area on my way back home.

Nice couple of storms earlier here, some good cgs to our east and then, a 2nd to our west which hit the island and gave a positive strike that hit Newport too with louder thunder :)

Saw the most spectacular CG this evening from my 10th floor office at work out towards Crystal Palace way, must of hit the TV mast there, unfortunately was in a meeting at the time, so couldn't get a video rolling. It went up, then down then spread outwards like proper 'tower lightning'.

GFS today has shown negligible CAPE across the SE for this evening, even on the latest 18z run, does appear to struggle to simulate mid to upper level instability ... The NetWX-MR chart viewer similar ... and these really the only CAPE charts available freely.

Agreed, hence GFS not really a massively good steer today - more of an ingredients type approach instead. The raw ascent from Brest at 12z today yields a whopping 150 J/kg CAPE aloft, from the 600mb level (ie from 15,000 ft upwards). Not much, but just enough to set some of these off...

Caught a glimse of that here too ( see earlier posts) roof tops here spoilt the view somewhat, but the thunder that followed was a real deep and lingering affair, almost 'out of context' really as apart from another flash and rumble that was it!

Nice convective rainfall though.

Wish I was visiting mum for that one lol. Would have seen it out of my bedroom window, can see both towers quite clearly from there.

Its a shame, if that storm just SW of Alton hadn't have died, then I reckon that I could've got something. I will just have to continue waiting...
