Some decent undulatus around this evening. Looks like channel storms have conked out atm though.

Just heard two bits of thunder coming from my SW - I guess that's the Bognor storm?

Just seen the Bognor webcam, and some very close CG strikes on there. Quite a lot of CG's for an 'elevated' storm.

Thunder and lightning here, big rain drops but not that heavy at all.

In Worthing, had several flashes and bangs. No rain. Very dark outside looking west. Lightning & thunder disappeared in last 10 minutes.

Better than nothing!!!!

That Southampton storm is going for it now. Hopefully that won't die.

My experience of elevated storms are that they are often quite prolific CG producers, as it is my understanding that the greater gap beneath an elevated storm creates more resistance for an electrical charge building up in the storm to dissapate between the cloud and ground than it would through a low based storm - so you are more likely to get a strong CG bolt to bridge the larger gap under an elevated storm rather than the charge spreading down through the low rain base to earth harmlessly.

Stormchasing in the USA, I've seen strong +ve CG bolts (the dangerous type that blows up trees and buildings) coming out the anvil of the storm that maybe 50,000ft high at the top, so height is certainly not an issue.

Thanks for the explanation.

Well that was a cracking little storm, albeit short lived. Got some video of some vivid fork lightning and very loud thunder. Moved through very quick though!

I'm off to Mexico tomorrow which is going to be an experience! First time out of Europe wow! If I get any storms etc I'll be sure to get them on here. My fingers are crossed for some good storm days through August for you all to enjoy and hopefully a proper plume event! Good luck all!
