We need to wait for that trough to get closer I think. That storm to the SW died after about 1 minute which is no good to anybody and everything seems to be dying and fizzling atm as it goes over the irish sea

current skies here in East Wilts......a bit of a pot pourri, plenty of mid level instability, a mixture of Ac Cas, Ac Floccus, Ac, TCu, virga, and even some mammatus...the proverbial kitchen sink!

attachicon.gifIMG_20150710_180306.jpgattachicon.gifIMG_20150710_180315.jpgattachicon.gifIMG_20150710_180323.jpgattachicon.gifIMG_20150710_180332.jpg

Those mammatus are passing over me now 1 clear one and 5 faint ones.

Looks like there is another cell starting to develop over the Devon-Cornwall border:

that also appears to have eased I think

Yep if it wants to pour down there , there are about 14 australians in Cardiff I wouldn't mind getting soaked

Defenitely has not eased that cell, getting more intense. Gordon, you've got no chance of getting anything tonight (though saying that we didn't till about an hour ago).

Certainly looks thundery here. Funny how it didn't feel that thundery last Friday, but we saw the best overnight storm of the decade!

Humidity is ridiculous in Weston and mammatus passed here a short while ago. Some strike moving through North Devon now. X

Unfortunately for Gordon, the skies above Coventry are full of strange cloud formations too. Plenty of mamma using small batches and quite a few clouds producing precipitation which isn't reaching the ground.

It wasn't a 23rd July 2013 beater for me, although came close.

Was on par I'd say!

23rd of July 2013 was awesome here, but more localised in southern areas. The variety of lightning in the July 2013 storm was simply staggering though and lasted 7 hours here!

Hang on...feeling a bit out of touch here. Are things happening that weren't forecasted to happen? I was expecting nothing tonight.

Im thinking widespread mammatus clouds are quite rare? I always have them down as one of the more special clouds! Not sure what bearing they have on the storm front either as they are usualy associated with sinking air? we need the air to be lifting :p

GFS doesn't have much in the way of PPN overnight, whereas MetO has a squall-line passing across the UK by midnight.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
