Warm day ahead but a brisk southerly wind ahead of the front way out west which wont effect us during day light hours, bright start to sunday but a rash of heavy showers bubbling up from the west during the afternoon... these could be very heavy with the risk of hail and thunder mixed in for good measure.

So most of this weekend not too bad really with plenty dry weather... may be time to cut the lawn for the last time this year later today :)

First of many ahead then now that we are heading into autumn. May i ask where in newcastle you live, as it will play a big part to your snow chances in winter... especially deep lying snow.

Not very high then, with you being close to city centre then lying snow will be harder to settle or melt quick. Best place for snow close by is consett... well known for its snow in winter.

Hopes dashed! Still, better chances than southern Ireland

With your elevation you will be looking at needing upper 850s of -6/7c or below during convective events, the North Sea snow making machine really is a thing of beauty in winter. Its one of the bonuses of living in the NE but unfortunately the wind has only briefly come from that direction in recent winters. Even in Northerly topplers which mainly gives the wishbone effect, we can still see a dusting in places :)

Heres a few snaps of the winter just gone with the snow machine at work. IMG_7388.JPGIMG_7389.JPGIMG_7390.JPG

Windy night ahead, especially northern parts of the region.

Gales and locally severe gales are expected to develop across much of Scotland and the far north of England for a time on Thursday. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely in many areas, whilst the strongest winds, with gusts of around 75 mph, are possible across the Hebrides, Sutherland, Caithness and Orkney during the first part of the morning. Please be aware that potential impacts could include minor travel disruption with some bridge restrictions, and possible damage to trees and structures. Additionally, large waves will build off northern and western coasts of Scotland with the risk of some wave overtopping here. This Warning has been updated to extend the southern boundary south into northern England and to bring forward the end time.

A vigorous area of low pressure will pass to the north of Scotland during Thursday morning, bringing a brief spell of very strong winds for northern parts of the UK, before the winds ease down from the northwest by the early afternoon. The strongest winds are currently expected to affect more northern parts of the Hebrides and then move east over Sutherland, Caithness and Orkney during the first part of the morning. Gusts of around 75 mph are possible, but any one location is only expected to experience the strongest winds for an hour or so.

Local Authorities affected and associated warning levels

Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Durham, Sunderland

Certainly a bit breezy out there this evening. Sounding particularly strong the last hour or so.

Nice start today. The wind was quite something yesterday. Rubbish strewn all over the place, and saw a rather large branch hit the ground in front of me right next to some woman walking out of uni. Earphones in and doing something on her phone, don't think she noticed - didn't even flinch!

Sometimes during stormy weather the north east can get some very strong gust of winds due to us being to the lee of the pennines.

Yes a sort of reverse Helm wind though that can be particularly severe.
A kind of Vortex-shedding effect.

We are on 10.1C  presentlly after brief showers raced over.
It's clearing now and looks like being one of those evenings when it cools dramatically soon after sunset probably will go below 5C.

Nice day today, pretty much unbroken sunshine. Chill in the air but shelter from the wind and standing in direct sunlight it was very pleasent indeed.

Beautiful morning, foggy with a touch of frost. Walking into town a few hours ago:

Will have to pick up an cheap weather station soon to get the actual temperature, but it certainly felt close to freezing.
