Finally improved here about 11am and blue sky now, but still relatively cool at 14C - with light easterly still evident.

Cloudy this morning at Embleton, but cloud started to break about 11.30, than continuous sunshine from about 2pm. Cool in shade but bit with bit of shelter and in sun felt fine. Still sunny now. No sign of cloud rolling in yet. Much better than yesterday when cloud did not break at all.

Yellow warning out for tomorrow afternoon and evening

Issued at:1113 on Mon 6 Jun 2016

Valid from:1400 on Tue 7 Jun 2016

Valid to:2100 on Tue 7 Jun 2016

Heavy, thundery showers will break out on Tuesday afternoon over parts of northern England and Scotland. These will be slow moving, and whilst many places will miss the worst, they will bring some localised torrential downpours. The public should be aware of the possibility of surface water flooding and travel disruption.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Warm, moist air will turn unstable as the ground heats up, releasing heavy, thundery showers. Many of these will be over high ground, but will drift into lower-lying areas too. There could be more than 20 mm in the hour locally, with more than 50 mm in a few hours possible.

Covers

Northumberland, Darlington, Durham

Just travelled from newtom aycliffe to withernsea in the glorious sunshine, but some huge temperature contrast of more than 10 degress. At one point the temp reached 25c and dropped to 14c right on coast near withernsea, with low cloud lapping the coast.

After very early sunshine, cloud rolled in but did not break at Beadnell until about 2.30; Unbroken sunshine since then. Cool on shore breeze, but with shelter feels warm.

Thunderstorms kicking off over the Pennines moving very slowly

The only way they'll get to the south of the region is if they start and drift SE

Durham northwards is in prime position if they drift east or NE and don't die out

Quite a classic thundery afternoon here with cool onshore sea breeze meeting hot air at about 25C from the Vale of York.
You could literally see clouds boiling up overhead then rumbles started soon after 2pm.
Some heavy rain for a while gave over 3mm but still warm at 19C

Looks like we've missed the rain from the storm over Barnard Castle cloud increased and thunder could be heard in the distance but that was it

Still some storms around the one over Catterick is moving NE at the moment

Cloud has returned to the region this should start and burn back to the coast during this morning or at the latest very early afternoon

What direction were the showers going yesterday west to east because looking back at the radar the cells that formed over the pennines stayed over the pennines mostly

I think it was one of those days were they just grew in situ and meandered about slightly.
Sea fog again this morning, just got above 11C but is trying to brighten up.

So a big improvement for us near the coast I suspect as things drift in more from the west again at last.
It is exasperating hearing of day after day of warm or very warm weather elsewhere while we have had a couple of days over 20C - and one of those was a big shower in the afternoon!

Cloud has rolled in during the past hour got a shower currently moving eastwards looking at the radar no strikes detected yet

Whether it has much rain on it the further it tracks remains to be seen

bit brightness this afternoon, feels muggy out there and some hefty showers delevoping to the west and south... some torrential downpours likely if you catch them. already few flashes of lightning showing from these.
