I'm back in the NE for the week and it looks like I potentially picked a good week to come back... I expected a little bit more convective weather today however about 30 mins ago, there was a full on heavy soft hail shower with quite gusty winds. It was interesting looking at the "sheets" of precipitation coming down because dew points are quite low and you could see a lot of it was not reaching the ground but once the dew point rose, it finally reached right to the ground and it was quite dramatic. I looked out for any flakes of snow but I did not seen any definite sign of snowfall.

I think some could be surprised by tomorrow morning, winds during tomorrow are forecast to go more NNE'ly so the North Sea affect could come into play and uppers rise a tad but are forecast to drop again slightly during Wednesday with a off shore wind but hopefully some convective showers will break out during the afternoon.

Potentially some interesting weather coming up. Good old Spring weather! People tend to think Spring should always be warm but should not be the case.

A fair old crop of showers on the way for later on this evening and overnight as those winds strengthen and switch round to more of a North-easterly.

Could be interesting first thing tomorrow morning.:)

Had a few heavy soft hail showers today and the wind was really gusty too as they passed through.

Would be nice to wake up to an albeit temporary surprise tomorrow morning but I won;t be disappointed if I don't.

Just looked outside and its dry and cloudy and looks rather flat compared to the speckle clouds we had earlier. Just missed a 2nd soft hail/snow shower by a matter of a mile!

Dewpoints are quite low so any PPN coming in from the North Sea could tend to fizzle out and not even reach the ground at times!

Morning, no snow here this morning... just cold.

showers clipping the east coast and moving little inland over teeside and N Y Moors, the latter should have a covering this morning from these showers i would have thought.

Will be later today showers get going for most, some heavy with everything but the kitchen sink today :)

Heavy snow driven by the wind earlier - as bad as anything this winter.
Eased off now and slushy cover is melting slowly.

Yes some beefy showers around at the moment with everything mixed in, just travelled from chester-le-street to newton aycliffe and had rain, sleet then hail back to rain then snow/blizzard at higher elevations with some slushy deposits on fields.

Blue sky now though :)

We've had everything but thunder today, tomorrow should be a calmer day still a few showers around, but nowhere near as many as today

still expecting some heavy showers to develop tomorrow afternoon, more especially in the east with hail/thunder but prob not as wintry as today (snow wise)

showers still blowing in from north sea at present but inland showers should fade next few hours... just had a few light hail showers here.

Thursday night into friday morning could produce a spell of more persistent wintry weather

Still plenty of showers coming in off the north sea

They should start and die out during the next few hours, leaving a calm and cold night

Bit of a surprise snowfall starting to settle on the ground. Looks like the convectivity will keep on for a while hopefully. Currently 0.5C

Looks like there's been a few snow showers overnight as everything is covered. Quite beautiful spring morning and it's still snowing now albeit quite light.

Edit: the latest shower has passed through clearly showing a top of hills event
