Raining heavily here, already showing signs of turning sleety, colder air flowing down from north should turn the rain increasingly to sleet/snow on higher elevations... but also to low lying areas later tonight followed by wintry showers and a cold weekend.

Atrocious weather, becoming a common theme, cold springs and summers apart from odd days. Keep hearing warmest months, warmest years ever?

Could see some snow to quite low levels from this incoming shower.

Just sleety here from them showers moving down... few big flakes mixed in from time to time.

Actually as i wrote this a heavier shower passed through with a lot more snow mixed in... nice to see but still very wet :)

Sleet, snow, rain and hail!!. Snowflakes were huge too. Hoping this little 'cold snap' is winters end and can then start looking forward to sunshine and warmth..( I wish..!!)

Glorious start it should last all day today and with the wind much lighter temps in the mid teens are quite possible

Reached 12C but felt much warmer with strong sun and little wind.
When breeze did pick up it felt chilly though, as it's in the east.
Good drying weather again, and spotted first two swallows - which look like residents as they seemed to know their way round the yard.

Reached 13C, lovely in sun but edge taken off in any breeze. Hopefully we can get a temperature above average tomorrow as it's long bike ride day!

Swallows been here about 2 weeks now. Looked odd last Saturday, about a dozen of them swooping over the river looking for non existent flies as the snow flakes fell around them!!! If spring and summers continue in the same vein as recent ones the swallows will probably not bother returning.....I wouldn't!!

More often than not they get the odd day sat on the wires with snow falling here, but I think a worse problem is extended spells of north or north easterlies in June - when they have young to feed and it's too cold for any insects to be flying for days sometimes.
At the moment they can travel further away to sheltered spots lower down for a few days if need be.

Blue sky and 13.6C presently, the wind is in the south today - but quite strong at times.

Superb day today probably the best day of spring so far wall to wall sunshine and hardly a breeze is making it very pleasant in the strong sunshine

Some chilly nights coming up but day time temps should still get towards the higher end of single digits

The temperature is plummeting under this current shower chance of some snow later today and overnight especially but not exclusively to higher ground

Already snowing lightly here at newton aycliffe with some hail mixed in. Was working in wallsend earlier and even there it was very sleety.

We've had some hail in this mornings shower the temp dropped like a stone when it arrived no more showers since tho lots of cloud

Likely to see a lull this afternoon before the showers get going this evening and overnight

I think a few will wake up in the morning with a white surprise, already had hail and a bit of sleet this morning which is  good sign for later this evening and overnight as the cold digs in behind that weather front that past through earlier
