Cold and frosty start though more cloud than of late hopefully it will break up as the morning progresses

Whilst the temperatures are around or slightly below the seasonal average its that time of year now where the sunshine makes it feel more pleasant especially with light winds

Spells like this have become rare in the past few winters certainly makes a nice change after all the cloud and rain we had in December and Jan

There's been a dusting of soft hail in the night and this morning some hard to spot dry snowflakes floating around with no obvious showery cloud to have come from.
Stiff westerly breeze meant it only got down to -1.9C, and is just above now with the sun at 0.8C

A cloudy start has given way to a sunny mid-morning onwards.

cloudy and cold here most of the day, cold night ahead especially where cloud breaks for any length of time. Chilly north easterly wind develops into weekend with wintry showers blown in from the north sea although not amounting to anything really.

Next week looking more unsettled with bands of rain crossing the region with snow on higher ground interspersed with colder, showery conditions... these sometimes wintry.

Nothing mild likely in the foreseable... just briefly next tuesday.

Little change over the weekend with plenty of dry and at times cloudy weather

Tuesday sees some milder air and rain arrive after this temps drop back to or slightly below average

cloudy here this morning which has meant no frost but a nip in the air... Nothing much to say really.

Happy friday :)

No frost here either the past two nights and despite these wonderful synoptics no snow in sight

Cold and cloudy doesn't really cut it, I want the sunshine back!

This is fairly normal for easterlies though - the model thread in winter is dominated by endless scanning for possible easterlies, presumably because in the SE they might see snow flurries and an hour of snow when it turns milder.
Here we typically get leaden skies and North Sea temperature about 5C.

In regards to model output over past few runs, to end of next week and following weekend it is looking to be cold and with low pressure slipping across the uk into the north sea and south allowing cold air to drain across our patch and with a stronger more favourable wind direction and low pressure close by we are more likely to see some wintry weather.

need things to firm up over weekend, but could interesting.

I was surprised we got down to -4.1C, there were clear spells and little wind, but the cloud seems to have been quite dominant again and very grey now.
That chilly night takes the Feb mean below average here and two more cold days to edge it down some more.

Wake up this am to a very slight dusting if small snow pellets on the rooftops, west facing rooftops still retain some despite the temperature in the sun registering 8c,pathetic but this so called winter just about worth mentioning.

Capture.thumb.PNG.54f093425cb0d8791b3b60 Signs of things getting colder later next week, obviously places at a lower altitude wont be as cold.

Weather here at 7-30am.overnight snow pellets and thick white frost presented the wintriest scene of this so called winter, but all had melted by 9am. Better than nothing I suppose.

1 hour ago, Summer Sun said:

A frost is looking a good bet tonight barely a cloud in the sky at the moment

Indeed, been a nice evening and now sun gone done temps should drop pretty low tonight.

expect an unsettled and increasingly uncertain forecast to end the week. plenty of rain and from wednesday onwards colder weather returns... mild tuesday but with rain and wind around it wont feel pleasant thats for sure. Keen winds at times and when they turn northerly or north eastery later in week some snow is likely.

I have a hunch that this upcoming change in weather pattern will deliver this time for our patch and a cool/cold march is the form horse.

Thoughts anyone??

Frost forming already gonna be a cold one for sure

As for snow I wouldn't be getting my hopes up maybe some snow for higher parts of the region which aint unusual for March but at lower levels I suspect we'll see frequent cold nights with some frosts and daytime highs around 5c or 6c
