I do feel today is the best chance for snow across the region we'll still have a few showers tomorrow but they could be more hit and miss

Meanwhile here its a sunny start with some patchy cloud its nice to not have day's on end of cloudy muck of the north sea like we've had in previous

The warning was updated in the early hours it still expires at mid day

Issued at:0301 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid from:0305 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid to:1200 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Showers of sleet and snow are likely to continue during Sunday morning, leading to further accumulations of 2-5 cm of snow in places, mainly across northern and northeastern Scotland and the Pennines, with ice an additional hazard, particularly where skies clear after overnight showers. Please be aware of the potential for difficult travelling conditions. This warning has been updated to include a larger part of Aberdeenshire and eastern England as far south as central Lincolnshire.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An area of more frequent rain, sleet and snow over parts northeastern England will continue into Sunday morning introducing an increased ice risk on untreated surfaces where skies become clear until a couple of hours after dawn. Meanwhile, a cold northeasterly flow has become established across much of Scotland with sleet and snow showers affecting areas exposed to the northeast. During Sunday morning, these showers will become more frequent over the far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles.

Covers

Durham, Gateshead, Northumberland, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees, Newcastle upon Tyne

As i expected, updated warning

Issued at:
1045 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid from:
1055 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid to:
1200 on Mon 15 Feb 2016

Warning:

Showers of sleet and snow are likely at times during Sunday and overnight into Monday when they will also affect some southeastern parts of England, although the showers here will generally be a mix of sleet and hail near coasts. Accumulations of 0-2 cm of snow are likely in places at low levels, but locally 2-5 cm over hills and where showers become aligned in bands in the northeasterly flow. Ice will be an additional hazard overnight, particularly after showers. Please be aware of the potential for difficult travelling conditions.

This warning has been updated to extend the end time until midday on Monday, whilst also extending the warning area southwards across some central and eastern parts of England, chiefly for late Sunday evening onwards.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

The colder airmass already established across Scotland and the north of England will continue south to affect most other parts by Sunday evening. Showers will feed in on the north to northeasterly winds, particularly affecting the more northern and eastern parts of Scotland, along with northern England during Sunday daytime, but progressing further south into the north and east Midlands along with parts of east and southeast England during Sunday evening and overnight into Monday. Not everywhere will see the snow showers, but some may become aligned in bands from time to time, leading to the risk of some moderate accumulations of snow, most likely over northern Scotland and northeast England. Ice will also be a hazard on untreated surfaces, particularly between showers overnight, with those areas just inland from the coasts of eastern and southeast England at particular risk as the showers will fall as a wintry mix.

Local Authorities affected:

Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland

The air is from the Arctic now, and if you get any decent showers it will soon drop 2 or 3 degrees.
Proper dry floaty snow flurries here on and off at 2C

Morning, Think today will be a better day for snow showers... already pushing in from north sea and with colder air now in place and more north/north easterly flow pushing showers further inland (coastal areas will see a wintry mix)

Showers should become more frequent later today into the night period, when i expect a suprise covering for some in to monday morning...

Euro 4 model shows this nicely  56c03e11bdf5d_euro4.thumb.gif.ace56a45bd

Moderate snow falling here in South Shields. Large snowflakes, just on the right side of marginality for ppn to be of snow and not a wintry mix.

At the moment I seem to be in the runway for clear weather either side has snow but fine and dry here. Is the wind due to change to more of a northerly at some point today so the showes pass here?

Glad to see the coast getting snow, very rare past few winters lol

Showers becoming organised into bands, so if your either side of these its a nice winters day as @Summer Sun has just said

We have had hail, rain, sleet and snow this morning.

Light drizzle at the minute with uppers of -7 and a dew point of -1  only in the winter of 2015/2016

If we get a heavy shower i am sure it will fall as snow, weather it lays or not is a different matter.

Very gloomy outside, dark gray as far as the eye can see. It's pretty nippy as well.

If anything does fall from the sky it should be wintry but so far there's not been anything.

EDIT: Literally as I post this it starts to hail.

The best place to be seems to be NY Moors or the borders, although shower activity seems to be increasing in the N.Sea, so just about anywhere in the NE could get them this afternoon.  Then the models predict a trough sinking down the E Coast later which could bring a covering for many.....eyes to the radar....

Everything white over here, had hail/grupel for 20 mins, looks like some type of streamer has set up around the river tees according to the radar never seen that before.
