Drive back from work was telling. 4C at Newcastle airport at 3pm a few blobs of snow on grass dropping to -1C on half hour drive home to Consett where central reservations and side roads frozen solid with snow and ice.

Amazing the difference 200m makes.Brrr

Sun just setting, now -1.2C and falling

Light snow now falling with a temperature of -2c, that's not bad for November!

Rain here now on the coast, not unexpected. Had plenty of showers here yesterday some of rain but must were wet snow. The wind was the main thing blew down a couple of trees locally.

Sleety here, it was -2.6C about 1am but is +1..7C now.

Hills are still pretty white but rather shrouded in low cloud.

At least that vicious wind has subsided.

Windchill was close to -8C yesterday at times.

Well I saw falling and settling heavy snow on late Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday morning. Quite a stormy affair it was too with very strong winds forcing the snow to settle on the house windows. That in itself is something noteworthy as far as wintry weather here is concerned. Although it was a brief "blink and you miss it" affair, it's a bonus and better than nothing!

Another cold night coming up the last of this cold snap I wouldn't be surprised if some rural parts get down to -4c or 5c the towns and cities hovering around or slightly below 0c by dawn

Then we begin the hunt for round two which could be as early as the 29th November.

Another cold feel today even though the temperature is much higher than the weekend

1 band of rain is making its way across the region now moving NW to SE

Another band of rain is likely later on with temperatures starting to rise during the evening

Yellow warning for strong winds out for tomorrow and Sunday

Issued at: 1054 on Fri 27 Nov 2015

Valid from: 0900 on Sat 28 Nov 2015

Valid to: 1800 on Sun 29 Nov 2015

A blustery weekend is expected across England and Wales with winds strengthening from the west on Saturday morning. Gusts around coastlines exposed to the westerly or southwesterly winds could reach 60 mph at times. Inland gusts will be less frequent but could still reach 50 to 55 mph. Further strengthening from the west is expected on Sunday where gusts around western coasts could locally reach 70 mph. Elsewhere gusts of 60 mph are possible, particularly in western areas. Please be aware of the potential for some disruption due to the strong winds.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A low pressure system is expected to move east to the north of Scotland on Saturday strengthening winds across the UK but particularly across England and Wales. The winds in association with this are expected to be very gusty and whilst the strongest winds are likely to be around coasts exposed to the westerly or southwesterly winds some strong gusts are also expected inland. Another low pressure system will run eastwards across southern Scotland on Sunday further strengthening the winds over England and Wales. There is some uncertainty with the track of the second low and the extent of the gusty winds inland and so this warning is likely to be updated over the weekend.
