Summer heat

I've a few questions about summer heat which I haven't been able to find the answers to elsewhere.

Hopefully someone may be able to answer!

- What's the average number of days per summer that 30C is reached in East Anglia or the SE?

- Is it possible to reach such temperatures without a plume (i.e. can they be 'home grown')?

- Does any model have a good track record of forecasting plumes and the such-like ahead of the reliable timeframe?

Thank you :)

- Average about 3 days a year of 30C, not sure about Anglia but definatly SE gets 3i0C every year whilst Manchester about once every 3 years.

- Upto 35C can be reached without anything drawn in off Europe depending on Wind, Cloud and importantly how dry the air is.

- About 50% models predictions are correct

Thanks.

I suppose any home-grown heat would rely on a high-pressure system sitting over us which builds and builds the temperatures.

when that high pressure got stuck over us for most of july 2 years ago (azore high) I think that was home grown heat.  Was very hot miserable weather.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
