Staying at my mother in law 's place in Wroughton (just south of Swindon).

Just seen the first flash here!

Yet the storm is still at least 30 miles away!

Crazy stuff!

Lots of lightning around me to the South and East and occasionally to the West and I'm some 30 miles away from any of the storms. THAT IS WHY ELEVATED STORMS ARE THE BEST. Get out there and watch those skies folks even if the storms aren't overhead or on your patch as it is a site to behold.   :good:

Wow!!!

This was my first attempt at photographing lightning as well! I would recommend the app iLightningCam on the App Store as it takes the photo when it detects the Lightning meaning you can just be lazy and sit back

That entire mass of precip near Bournemouth is heading north straight for the east midlands

Sferic detected near Exeter - isn't that area behind the cold front now?

I'm not too sure that is the CF. I didn't think the CF was aligned N-S for a start.

Never experienced anything like that. Forks ciming down all around me, marble hail and torrential rain. Bingo!

Indeed it is. The Bournemouth cell has developed a nice core now too.

nice to hear reports of some storms now. Radar looks poor for most of the country though atm. BBC graphics had things really ramping up now across Yorkshire, especial the east but there is nothing at all on radar yet.

Some stuff actualy trundling to the west of Manchester out in Irish sea, that wasnt the plan lol!

Grr those storms down south better get here!!! Im not missing out again :p

I'm a bit conflicted. It seems like some of it is trying to veer away into the north-east, but then the rest of it wants to continue on a northerly bearing. I'm thinking that the storm is starting to split in two... either that or it may be forming a bit of a squall line?

TBH if that really is the CF straddling the West Midlands it'll be game over for us soon and the East Midlands getting the fun....possibly a la Euro 4 from earlier
