Looks like it, the SW is pretty much dead by the looks of things...

I'm thinking the same William, fingers crossed it all starts in the next hour

Seems that the Midlands and Wales are spawning things so far.

Either:

1. It's all kicking off much further north than thought.

2. It's a pre event surprise.

3. The gap behind these initial showers/storms will start to fill in.

I don't know what it is! We'll soon find out!

Still confident here in Dudley.

Yep, developments starting around here. Surrounding skies are filled with towering altocumulus.

Looked like some Mammatus as well a few minutes ago over central Peterborough - although just been outside and it feels quite cool in the wind, although temperature is 18.7c and RH is 70% and rising.

That West Walian storm still giving sparks.. ~ but there's hardly any precipitation according to the radars.. that could possibly mean we don't need to look for torrential downpours.. but that feels so unnatural..

The speed that these showers are becoming electrified must be a good sign

Can confirm sheet lightning about every 30 seconds towards bristol channel from west mendip ,nothing of note showing on radar though .

theres every possibility it could kick of later but i,v a nagging feeling its going to be more of a central or northern event ,but still plenty of time ,it as gone very muggy ,i,m not staying up but leaving windows open anything worth a peep will wake me ,but certainly all later than what was forecast .cheers .ps must say that many a time in the past going back years these set ups after a slight hick up could produce later in the night ,our trigger is moving in from the west ,its lurking about but time as usual will tell ,great posts tonight keep em coming please .

I'm sat in my garden in Gresford, N.Wales and it's gone a bit cool. The cloud is thickening but it doesn't feel thundery.

Of course I know nothing about weather systems, I just love a good electric storm.

Looks like we all need to be on the lookout then!

From Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury to Cambridge to Weymouth things are spawning.

If you can see it over the Bristol channel it's probably the storm on the West Cardiff Coastline

sitting out in the garden and sky does look a bit stormy.

where are you kate? i thought you lived in billingshurst? a plane just flew over taking an odd route. im guessing to avoid turbulent air to the south...
