So is that it now? Cloud cover ruined the hottest day

Got to 31.2oC here in St.Albans, just 5 mins ago, cloud has now just come over and already dropped to 30.8oC

5C up in my garden compared to yesterday, currently a ridiculous 32.8C, higher as I would expect than official data around this area, but it a direct comparison with yesterday for my garden. Need to check if I have ever been higher than this in the 18 years of data, I doubt it.

well I was wrong

27/06/2011=32.9C

33.7 is the absolute max here on 17/07/06

For RAF Finningley the absolute is 35.5 on 03/08/1990 with just one other higher than here today at 33.3 on 31/07/1943.

It would seem that the folk who said nothing out of the ordinary were wrong, at least for here?

John H - from the moment you posted the anomaly charts for this period, it was clear to me and some other longtimers such as Captain Shortwave that something was up, and that was a good 11/12 days ago. I have been baffled by the posters who have tried to say 20C uppers (actually 22C/23C according to EURO4) was nothing special.

It looks as if the UK record is very much in danger even with cloud cover - possibly just short - if it hadn't been for that random wave of cloud this morning we'd probably have got to 100F today.

As for here, the cloudy interruption of this morning has long gone and we're around 28C ATM.

Most memorable moment for me was hitting 25C at 8am this morning - incredible!

Mostly cloudy with sunny spells. A brief maximum earlier of 25.0C in the sunshine but now down to 23.0C with the strengthening sea breeze. Rather humid with a dewpoint of 17.2C.

Well it has gone even higher, touching an incredible 34.8C my highest in 18 years and the 2nd highest I know of in this area going back to 1943. Not official of course as my site would 'fail' UK Met standards but interesting even so. The only higher value was 35.5C in 1990 on 3 August at RAF Finningley-the record for this area other than a dodgy value pre WW11.

33.7oC here in Sunny St.Albans just north of London!

Dipped below 31oC for a while after hitting a high of 31.2oC before the cloud but flew back up afterwards, I can EASILY see the UK July record being broken today!

36.5... well it's jit 36oC in Heathrow already!
