Thought you folks might find this interesting.  Sorry about the quality, it was dark and my phone camera didn't pick the hail up visibly but it got some re

The loud smacks and bangs are the hail hitting my Garage Door and the roof of my car!  It gets really interesting from about 1:22 onwards :)

I'm in Keighley too. That was incredible. Scary but a privilege...I can't sleep now after that...

The latest WRF-NMM 18z suggests the Bay of Biscay huge storm will follow straight up over IOW/Brighton area.

...4pm tomorrow.

Parked up about 5miles north of Lincoln, after driving like a (perfectly legal) loon chasing the north Yorkshire storm (didn't realise it was that far away at the time).

Decreed it was moving faster than me so stopped here to take what photos I could, only to discover I had no tripod (schoolboy error!).

Managed to get some some lighting captured though by not breathing an balancing on the back of the motor. They look OK ish (if you squint and have an active imagination!).

Can't believe it's so far away (115 miles by road). Back home, I suppose, to some nicely chilling beer! (still 23 degree here in the middle of nowhere)

I'm still shaking! Went out to watch the lightning and it was stunning. Got right overhead so I went inside and watched out the window. Heavy rain came then the wind started roaring and the trees bending. Hubby heard a bang out the back and it was the first of many up to golfball size hailstones. We were really scared. I got some of the first and froze them and took photos but as they got bigger it was too dangerous to go out. Don't know if there is any damage. My first supercell I guess...not even had that in France. Bed now...

Thanks for sharing your experience, sounds right out of the Plains of the USA not Yorkshire! A worrying night for some ... Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland now in the firing line.

Absolutely incredible lightning to my south west, lightning every 1-2 seconds and increasingly loud thunder. The storms to my east off the coast are still fairly impressive too.

I think I've only ever seen night storms like this in Florida.

the cell in france atm am i seeing it spawn smaller cells on its southwest flank ??

Storms popping all over France.. to the South West..

Even near Brest again, the far West storm seems to be tracking NW while the others track NE-E

Looks like it has an outflow boundary, and storms are building on it.

Was away from comp from about 8-11pm. Came back and first thing I did was refresh the net-weather radar....absolutely gobsmacked over the eruption which took place around 9PM in the west-mids, NW area.

Been trawling through this thread and looking at youtube footage and reports from torro's fb page to keep up.

So where is that bloke from Wigan earlier? The one who said the NW will get sweet FA tonight?

Am I the only person in the south-east who thinks the north gets more than its fair share of storms and that the south-east is totally overrated? Lincolnshire has been a magnet for home-grown supercells over the years and Newcastle has had 2 or 3 spectacles today along with the NW. The best place to be in the south-east is Kent and typically on the coast; those of us in the north of the south-east region see sweet FA year in year out. Can't remember the last home-grown I saw. Usually it's waiting for French imports which either A: decay or B: clip Kent and Essex.  Mind you, July 2014 we saw a belter first time in years.

Otherwise, I was feeling optimistic about this week but now my moneys on whatever develops in the bay of biscay/France doing it's usual north-easterly track up into the Benelux. You lucky so an so's up north, make the most of it! Footage and pictures most welcome!

Nick F might know about hailstones but guess I can do my own research, but the ones I gathered had real cores in them - patterned. Is this from the length of time in the CB?
