Gotta say, was quite eerie watching that from a silent distance :) lovely show...

 Great wasn't it!

Still a muggy 25.3 here, highest we got to was 35.1

I can see flashes in the sky in Leeds and they don't look distant. Looks all round us. could it be Manchester or is there something developing this side of the Pennines?

I think it's just the lightning illuminating the clouds - certainly nothing nearby as far as I can tell. Still, went outside - a balmy 23C with constant lightning to my north. Doesn't happen that often here,

Pretty impressive stuff for the UK, hail and wind from the supercell over Swaledale, North Yorks earlier this evening:

Some pretty impressive lightning photos on social media from the storms over Manchester and NW England tonight too.

With regards to the MCS over western France, I reckon it could arrive across SE England around 4-5am, if it holds together, not trusting the models too much ATM, they've been somewhat in disagreement on track and timing of storms heading over Channel late in the night.

actually i drove to the irish sea coast earlier to see if i could glimpse the storm over the sea, unaware of what was going to unfold at home,  really didnt expect anything in greater manchester, noticed the flashes driving back along the m6 and m61, as it was getting dark,  so i missed best bit of the storm here , as it was moving away by now, but i did see loads of sheet and fork lightning as i was driving , and some when i got back, but distant rumbles

Enjoy the show guys, just had the 1 strike here in Exeter earlier this morning, forecasters got it spot on. Thinking back to my childhood we got some memorable storms but because we had no idea what was happening 10 miles away let alone 200 miles away we never felt hard done by in regards to not having a storm. Hoping to get some here in Exeter tomorrow, failing that we have all of July, August, sept yet to come so fingers crossed, otherwise I've enjoyed a cold beer in the warm eve temps, win win situation I reckon, ps storm happy northerners can you get some more pics uploaded for the rest of us

What are your thoughts on it keeping energy if it comes the way of the UK? I can't find any SB or MUCAPE that would realistically keep it going.

About 4 flashes from an elevated storm just to my north west, few rumbles of thunder also! Have to admit the METO and ESTOFEX nailed it :)

Slightly off topic but just noticed I've been a member here for 10 years and one week.....don't time fly eh?

And I've seen more Thunderstorms here in the last 3 years than I saw in the previous 7 living up in Lancs :)

there - back on topic :p

Thats quite a beast moving towards Bradford now, spent the past 45 minutes watching it turn into a large anvil with frequent lightning strikes every few seconds.

Tops at 40,000ft i'd say, once that main bulk of convection got going there wasn't really anything to stop it going further up.

New active cells firing further west in BoB...hence possibly the weather alert posted above by a SW chap :D

Tempting fate here, but, I've just had a notification for a thunderstorm alert.

They were absolutely spot on when i had that storm on June 10th.

Look at the new cells forming off of W France...possibly these heading your way
