Hailstones the size of mint imperials in Newcastle now, just north of the city centre. The storm seems to have blown over in 30 minutes, and whilst it seemed pretty severe, the lightning was far less frequent than earlier this afternoon.

Radar has some returns showing near Oswestry and it's developing, I would say chances are is genuine.

Let's hope that those in the Bay of Biscay move as fast...

Strikes me how serious these storms are but no warnings from the met office.

there is a warning on their website. the storms are in the areas specified. do you expect them to ring you personally to warn you of storms not even in your area???

Two more strikes between Llangollen and Oswestry. And another...witnessed to the SW of me. Will pass to the west of me assuming it takes the northerly course the others are doing.

I just like the idea of american style severe thunderstorm warnings with tracks etc. Severe storm obviously aren't as common so maybe it would be a bit of an over reaction.

Lightning cores to my north and south, not too much rain so far, but there are some nice anvil crawlers, no CG whatsoever

Let's just keep our fingers crossed for Friday night/early Saturday, JH...if the charts still look like this Tomorrow night I'll be a seriously happy bunny (providing it triggers!!)...otherwise in 2015 it's three plumes, no cigar.
