Wow, that storm near Darlington looks very severe. Wouldn't be surprised if a tornado forms - looking out carefully for any signs of a hook.

Possible supercell

Very distant rumbles in Newcastle now, very turbulent skies ahead of it, the anvil ahead seems to have spread about 10-15 miles ahead of the storm.

Forked lightning to my west now - gonna go try and grab some pics but looks like it may be losing power on the radar - can anyone confirm?

Re: the Skipton storm. Max 2-5km updraught helicity product attached from a 3km 06z run this morning.

You could argue that the convection was modelled too early but this does appear to suggest an environment that could support a rotating cell in Northern England this evening.

Yes a nice little cell formed out of nowhere. Latest strike was over Shawbury way. Hopefully this cell will develop into something decent.

The latest BBC forecast suggests a good chance for us down here, Harry...All eyes to the Bay of Biscay! :yahoo:

Fingers, toes, the lot all crossed :D

I am however firmly sceptical of any real thunderstorm threat tomorrow...certainly any that is going to last that long. One of the NMM models does suggest a modest 500-700j/kg CAPE returning across the SE during tomorrow, though GFS disagrees on this point.

No no no no!! I'm one officially unhappy chappy, devastated to be missing the super cell oop north!! Why can that never happen down here!! Nothing in Weymouth/Dorchester not even a sniff at a rumble!!

Fair play you lucky lot up north getting to witness Mother Nature at her finest!! How I envy you!! I just go chasing in America next year, if I don't see a tornado at least I'll get to see some lightning

Our next potential is tomorrow morning and friday evening, so still a few chances yet.  :)

Has this storm veered more to the north east now rather than the more northerly track?  I can hear constant rumbling now

Can hear rumbling also but I have a feeling it will skirt by me to my West although these small storms can be a little unpredictable.

Not going to complain much after seeing today's storm though!

If I start driving now I could be there by 4am I wonder if it would be worth it

Are you off your head by then it will be long gone cruising in the North Sea meeting its eventual death.
