Towers trying to get going to the south. Only takes one! Encouraging to see that Skipton cell develop very quickly out of nowhere. Hopefully one or two surprises to come over the next few hours :)

It's now or never really regarding the current warnings, they expire just before midnight, so developments are needed now as the sun sets.

Seen on twitter that the cell in Skipton is producing hail about 2/3rds the diameter of 50 pence pieces!

It looks mighty impressive on radar. Echoes suggest large hail, too. Moving northwards at a fair pace.

Eh? The warnings have been spot on. Storms have already broken out, you've said so yourself in the same post!

The warning said "isolated and possibly severe storms", and that's exactly what we're seeing.

Sorry I didn't mean that to sound as a pop at the warnings, the MetO has been pretty spot on today, I mean if anything else is to break out, it'd be now.

That Skipton cell if it keeps intensifying looks like I could see round 2 in County Durham!

I think County Durham will certainly be in the firing line again, the storm is moving pretty quickly. I'm not sure if it will deliver a direct hit to Newcastle this time as it is a lot smaller than the earlier storm, so it might fizzle out before it reaches here, and due to the smaller size it won't affect such a large area.

Ahh ok fair enough, apologies!

The Met Office just come under fire from unfair criticism on here at times, they have their flaws I admit, but on this occasion they've called it right.

Just seen the best mid level towering line of cumulus just east of here of the year moving north, and north is the place to be tonight imo for some possible violent thunderstorms.

I could see that storm in N Yorkshire from here! Huge cumulonimbus. It's annoying when places 3C cooler on average in summer can get better storms than you despite it being much hotter here. Ugh.

Someone in Otley has said on Facebook they through they saw a bit of rotation as it passed west of them. Nasty little thing! West of Newcastle looks in the firing line.

Quite severe conditions under that possibly it appears to be glancing past to the more densely populated areas to the east instead taking the more scenic route over Yorkshire Dales.

TORRO think so too, although they are an enthusiastic bunch as well :D

Torro have said the storm is likely a supercell, with a possible tornado.
