The storm just north of Sheffield is getting less intense, while the one ahead is getting stronger. Still seems to be following the pattern from the morning, ie storms are short lived, but now it's hotter, the ones that are springing up, are forming spectacularly, before weakening.

arr 'ey Chris don't shatter my dreams, I'm usually in work when any exciting weather happens

don't worry :-) I was just wondering whether you had any idea whether we were still in a good place, as I can't make my mind up after today's developments.

Still nothing here, aside from about 3 drops of rain and 10 minutes of hazy sun its just been cloudy and very tedious. Not even reached yesterdays high temp either.

Undone by French clag again.

Yorkshire certainly is the sweet spot right now.

about 4 minutes of very large raindrops, not enough to trip the rainguage though, size of old half crowns! No thunder, no lightning, sun coming out again with a very variable mix of cloud types, T=30.3C from 34.8 and Td=21.2C=more like Hong Kong or Singapore than Cantley='orrid!

I would avoid Chesterfield if you are travelling north later mate, Northbound and Southbound M1 traffic will now be diverted through here and the M1 is not due to re-open until around 5pm.

It will be a real bottleneck here for the rest of the afternoon.

The road network is so rubbish in the UK, traffic congestion is the bane of a UK storm chaser. I have the choice of the A52/A1 I suppose. Thanks though for that mate.

Completely overcast here now :( Worried that no thunderstorms seem to be forming in the Central Lowlands, although it is early in the day. Is it still looking good for the potential of severe thunderstorms over Southern Scotland/NW England later on today? All the action so far has been away from areas which have been forecasted to be most at risk :/

Heck of a lot of strikes between Harrogate and Ripon.  Strikes all round Leeds centre but brightening up here.

Yorkshire certainly is the sweet spot right now.

Hottest day for 9 years blah blah, no make that 24 hours. Why is it always this area that gets the cloudy boring stuff on "interesting days"? Surely it should be the south coast that gets French clag, its a lot closer to France....

That storm over Harrogate area has exploded in the last 15 minutes - right on a collision course for yours truly (if it stays active that is)

I've been looking at independent stations under those Northern storms, not much precip falling from them?!

Think some mentioned it may be that they are elevated in nature?  Feel free to correct me anyone.

There will be plenty falling, but because they're elevated most of the precip evaporates before reaching the ground.
