Weather Alert

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Thunderstorms and heavy rain

Affecting: Southern And Western UK

Date Valid For: 2:00PM - August 02 2004 -- 10:00 AM August 04 2004.

Time Of Issue: 1:58 PM 02 August 2004.

Time Of Update 2:12 PM 03 August 2004.

Isolated and slow moving thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout many areas of the UK this afternoon and evening, with some torrential downpours likely.

This will lead to hazardous driving conditions and the possibility of local flooding in some areas.

Lightning damage is also a possibility.

Along with the chance of large hail and high damaging winds.

These storms will be slow moving and will most likely last well in to the night.

Any area could see a thunderstorm through today and tonight.

Though the most likely areas at the moment are the south and western areas of the UK, stretching from Devon right up to western Scotland.

Eastern areas will be more at risk through August 03 2004, as the plume spreads eastwards.
