One of the Worst Late Springs...

From the 24th April to the 2nd June the weather has been diabolical

Haven't exceeded 15c in the entire period

average high temperature from 24/4 - 02/06  is 11.8c, a good 3.5c below average - the same length period from 21st March to 23rd April averaged the same max temperature of 11.8c!! ( March and April were both below average anyway)

1st and 2nd June 2015 colder than New Years Day 2015 - probably the worst ever start to June with the winds.

It is currently 9c at midday, this was a feature of the very worst parts of summer 2012.

It has been so cold in the last 5 weeks that trees that were about to come out then (Oak and Ash), are still pretty bare now, this has made it later than 2013 now for trees to be in full leaf, where in mid April 2013 there were still snow drifts lying around, and the landscape looked like mid winter, whereas mid April 2015 looked rather like it does now.

I find this astonishing and really shows just how bad the last 5 weeks have been here.

Agree 100%, constant naggingly cold North Westerlies with heavy showers and/or longer spells of rain. My back garden is a bog, flower are washed out. Not one BBQ yet.

As bad as i can remember, at least I can expect 16 degrees tomorrow....for a day at least.

It might not have been a great spring but neither has it been particularly bad around here. Even the end of May has still had decent days, like saturday, with plenty of warm sunshine.

Sounds like November again today here with gales and squalls lashing the darling buds.
Yes everything very late about two weeks behind normal here.

So dark this afternoon that after a heavy shower had to stop drilling for turnips as coud not see marker. Even sowing is late as trying to avoid frost as they come through  as they will go to seed in their first year instead of producing a bulb   It was 1c yesterday morning with lots of  fresh snow on the hills to the west above 2000 feet. No first cut silage cut yet in this area almost 2 weeks late. Very little grass regrowth after being grazed by cattle so supplementing with last years hay.Currently 9c

Spring was coming along nicely until late April, but it seems to have stopped. Some trees have still got blossom on as well as leaves, I wonder how things like strawberries are doing? 2012 you couldn't get them in June, or things like broccoli. That was after it hit 25C in late May.

16C has been a warm day this May/June, forget 20. So many 10-14C maxima with strong winds, while April had a string of 17-18s. And the lack of sunny days as well, any sun has been either between showers, ineffective because of wind, or confined to after 8pm.

It has not been good at all but neither was 1975,1979,1983,1987 and 1991  !

Looking at the historic data 1981 seems to have been an absolute stinker of a spring and early summer round here, rescued by a quite reasonable August. The sunshine figures at Shawbury for April-July that year, with the old sensor: 108.6, 111.3, 127.7, 148.5. And the average maxes 12.0, 15.1, 16.9, 19.3. Add March with just 61hrs and 96mm rain and that looks like an awful 5 months. At least 2015 had that sunny April to redeem the spring as a whole.

It has been atrocious. Measurable rain on 28 days since 24th April, plus 6 trace days giving just 6 completely dry days out of 40 :bad: It's not even as though there have been many night time only rain events. Every day practically follows the same pattern. Starts sunny, cloud builds up by 10am then it rains on and off the rest of the day. The last day to record 12 hours of sun was 21st April.

Temperatures rarely much warmer than average with a nasty nagging cold NW wind.  Barely more than a couple of passable days. Have taken trips down to Fife the last 2 weekends, just to get away from it as it is much more sheltered from the NW wind there.

It is the wind which is the standout feature. Just no respite from it at all. Every day it's blowing like it's October :help:

Not been too bad here after two very wet days in the first week. ok a cool wind and showers, some thundery and with frequent hail. Nice to see fresh snow on the mountains so regularly in late May [and on into June]. No problems with heat an humidity at nightime to interupt sleep either  :whistling:

Beginning to think we could be in for a very cool summer. High pressure refuses to get East. Sits in the Atlantic as a big round blob. Of use to no one. All very 2007-12 esque. Just look at some GFS runs just direct the coldest uppers possible at us whilst elsewhere does fine.

Yes its been a very disappointing period of weather temperature wise here in the Lake District. May hasn't delivered any particular warmth at all. The outlook suggests average temperatures at best - its reminiscent of late spring 2013, though at least we did see decent temps in April this year.

July and August are on average much warmer than June and maxes in Sept on average higher than June as well.
