There are signs of convection up here in Manchester, but unfortunately the cold front is due in the next hour or two, so I doubt there will be any showers, certainly not any thunderstorms.

Really is painful to watch - towering convection well off to my east, very warm and humid (clear skies) overhead, flat stratiform mess to my west.

There was me thinking that seeing endless towering thunderstorms just out to sea was an Autumn/Winter thing

On the upside we have been the highest temperature set back in April (Frittenden in Kent has already hit 26.7C)

Awesome skyline to my East, just a row of stunning Cbs.

Had started to drive down but something told me to stay at home...either I'd crash on the way down there or drive for 2 hours and miss it all anyway...or, something may still fire here.

Sky awash again with Ac (some AcCas) and latest temp reading I have of 26C.

Similar skies from here, Harry. It's as if the eastward line has sparked-off again?

That storm line is trying to get into eastern parts of Suffolk and I would suspect that Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth could get a pasting. The weather warning looks well founded, even if it is limited to coastal areas.

Just having an orange juice break in the shade after lawn mowing - one third done and I'm knackered! Blitzortung is going wild in the SE UK, meanwhile we are cloudlessly baking at 30c...

The lightning rate on the storm SW of Amiens in France is insane 220 strike per min average and climbing. Hail core is equally impressive.

Well I'm afraid to say that couldn't have been a more badly timed plume if it tried for me. Just finally finished all my awkward call outs in East London and ready to go chase but it literally just all stopped. PAH.

Next week there must be a plume isolated to Central South and South west areas only (oh and the North too) to redress the balance because so far this year has been mediocre for most of us for thunder!

I've heard 3 rumbles of thunder and seen one CG since July last year. Very poor storm wise.

On another break and just been looking at that. I've been in storms like that in N France - they are impressive. I've got the sound on on Blitzortung and it's like a Geiger counter in a reactor core!

Well, I knew we'd get damn all. Not surprised it was a Kent, or more so, Essex - Suffolk - Norfolk affair. Lucky so and so's.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
