Personally I think the models, some people on here and especially the BBC did great forecasting these storms and now theyre firing off they seem pretty active! Hats off to everyone!

Thought the timings were a little off though - to be honest there were so many conflicting forecasts it was always going to be impossible to pin down when and where

Constant thunder with some lightning....and now a decent hailstorm in Greenhithe. Going by the radar i`m in the sweet spot here. :)

Enjoy, those in the SE today. Lots of pictures and videos please, as I enjoy the sun, then drizzly mess that will come over this afternoon

Caught the edge of a small thunderstorm tracking over south Essex. Well at least this plume isn't a bust :)

hiya all, hoping any of you lovely people on here can help me out, it may be a silly question but am trying to learn a bit more here, i do understand the way a storm brews up and some of the mechanisms of storms, but im wanting to know a bit more about the heating element, idealistically youd have pleanty of surface heating ie sun coming through and warming the ground for the heat to rise, but on a day like today does that really matter when the storms have already kicked off, does the sun build the top of the storms for them to rise further or does the heating need to come from the ground, basically if like me at the moment youve got full cloud cover, a few breaks which allows the sun to come through for a few short minutes here and there, is that enough for the storms to carry on building from above, or would the lack of surface heat rising help kill off the storms. what would the ideal weather be for storms to better build, can having a strong sun and heat above the cloud cover keep these little beautys going and for that matter keep them building or do you need idealistically more surface heat. yes info for today but also for future reference xx hope youre all well and enjoy any storms you do al get  :D

The picture storm wise would appear clearer this morning, and its hats off to the BBC forecast graphics for once.Storms readily developing in the hot, humid air over SE England so far, where as on the edge of the plume,IOW-Home counties-Norfolk we have just outbreaks of rain.

So the sweet spot later would be the extreme east of SE England/East Anglia as the plume gets shunted East.

The apocalypse seems to have come to Kent on Lightning Maps . Seems to be the biggest storm in Europe, that one.

Going by this http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=nl , Isle of Grain might be a good spot in the next hr or so. :)

You must have slept through the hailstorm then :p

everything just skirting to east of here - Chelmsford atm - but lots of lightning and thunder

have interest in that next set to the S-West of London - if that can develop with some morning heat - might pass direct over Essex

that cell over Rochester looks quite potent

Nothing in west London this morning, a couple of decent looking storms further east though it all seems to be very fast moving. Enjoy the show anyone who's in the firing line

I'm going to go ahead and call a bust for me already.

No rain overnight that the BBC predicted, all rain seems to have been west and North of me, and there just seems to be a lot of high cloud around.

Ipod weather app has even dropped showers for today, now showing partly cloudy all day, after having the thunderstorm symbol next to Friday all week.

Hope I'm wrong, and mother nature produces. lol.
