I'll be interested to see if November's highest gust is challenged here by Barney's arrival. It currently stands at 70 mph on Nov' 5th 1996.

Nov 24th 2005 and Nov 20th 2008 came close with 69 mph.

A quiet, foggy morning here with periods of drizzle and a current temp' of 6.5c.

Yep, models in the last 24 hours have strengthened the wind gusts for us. Met office going for at least 60mph gusts and near 30mph average wind. Cannot remember the last time this happened. Will be fairly brief but could've quite severe for us by our standards and what we are used to.

West to southwesterly gales and locally severe gales are likely to sweep eastwards across the southern half of the UK later on Tuesday. Widespread gusts of 50-60 mph are likely, increasing to 60-70 mph across parts of Wales and the Midlands , and possibly reaching 70-80 mph in the most exposed spots such as on some coasts of West Wales.

Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures. A deepening area of low pressure will track east across southern Ireland and then central parts of the UK during Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a swathe of very strong winds developing on the southern flank of the low. There is now increased confidence that the worst of the winds will reach West Wales late in the afternoon, sweeping rapidly eastwards across the Midlands during the evening. This update extends the warning area northwards into the north Midlands and southern parts of Northern England. To be honest i expected these winds to become downgraded  but as you say there seems to be upgrades every run   70mph  would certainly feal brisk

Wind starting to pick up here now, With light/mod rain blowing around. I must remember to seal my living room window frame as there is a pinhole leak which creates a nice whistle in these conditions and a fine spray, Much annoyance to Mrs Maritime.. Temp 9.8c Gusting 43mph S/W.

Looks like the W Midlands will be one of the few regions without much of a snow risk this weekend sadly but nothing new there. Looks all coastal generally.

Still, we have tonight to focus on. Stay safe all.

You never know though, as extremes are seldom forecast in our region. I think we're defiantly a nowcast sort of region, when it comes to snow and can get surprises. Not getting my hopes up though, but at least were going to get colder. Still it's only Autumn still and with the potential for reloads there's still all to play for.

Just seen the whole sky to the east flashing, and the power flicked, there must have been a transformer blowing?

Awaiting power cuts  :fool:

Had 2 short power cuts so far, rubbish and bins blowing everywhere. Seen a couple of flashes to the SE, is there any lightning about?

No lightning about currently. Could be objects hitting power lines maybe?

Possibly, I couldn't see anything on the lightning radar. It looked like distant lightning flashes though.

Are you both in the countryside?

Never known a power cut here in the more urban areas from wind. Did dip briefly from the manic lightning storm on the 3rd July though.

Lights flickered a couple of times just now, but everything's still on as I type. Very windy (well, duh) but no obvious sounds of damage. Going to have a look outside in a while.
