Looking at the rain radar I'd say at least the East side of the Midlands might see some rain/thunder? Looks like it's heading towards us from that large area heading over from the Continent.

Never say never but I think it's going to be the very eastern fringes of our region that will see anything of note. The storm near St Neots for example looks like it may get close to places like Nottingham...maybe grazing a few places in our thread say east of Leicester on it's way.

Even though the storms over France might look like they could head this way, remember the whole lot is ever so slowly shifting east as the cold front very slowly starts to get closer. Could be a case of being too far west for most of us again. However, we just about snuck in on the fun in the very early hours of July 4th. Not suggesting anything on that scale but we were about to give up that night.

I should think there'll still be plenty of heavy rain to come though.

That band of rain isn't producing anything stormy - so even if you do get the rain, you probably won't see anything stormy.

What about shropshire? Bridgnorth. Am i too far west?

I'd say yes. Most of us are too far west.

Awoke at 3 a.m. to heavy rain, and it's pretty much continued on ever since then, getting a real drenching here (much needed). No storms but at least welcome rain.

Well after yesterdays disappointment, it looks like today will probably be the wettest here since 20th July 2007!

Very fine drizzle here all morning.

Was hoping for heavy rain and thunderstorms last 2 days but the Metoffice got it wrong yet again.

Not the nicest morning here. I know some of us do need the rain -- I'd just prefer if it fell overnight! It has brightened up a little in the last few minutes, though it's still raining. Fairly lightly now, though.

Confirmed wettest day since 20th July 2007 with storm total 39.2mm of which 37.1mm since midnight - quite a turn around!   Not had any effect on river level though - not often you see so much rain with zero flood risk!

Yes ,quite surprised we had so much rain, given the precip models!  River Isbourne has rose a little , but that's it! Shows you how dry its been round here!

Oh look! the latest radar has shown it reforming just as it leaves the central Midlands.

Thanks a lot God!

Well, as per usual, the rain band split as it passed over the middle of here, as per the post above ^^^^^

It's a real shame that the last few days didn't deliver for any of us Midlanders, but at least none of us will feel left out. As for the week ahead, its looking rather unexceptional with temperatures ever so slightly below average (warmer in the sun), and the jet stream pushing in atlantic lows which will probably end up bring patchy rain without thundery activity.

As for the long range:

Temperature-wise: Below-average to average on most days, possibly warmer by Friday into next weekend, but nothing exceptional expected for the remainder of August. Very slight indications of a hot spell (30C+) towards the end of August, but obviously this is too far off to be even slightly accurate.

Precipitation-wise: Considering most of August has been drier than average, yesterdays rainfall only made up for that in most places. Most of us will probably get patchy light showers on some days next week. Next Friday could bring some rain, or no rain. Next weekend will probably be wetter and into the week after, a very small chance of some big thunderstorms if the potential hot spell kicks off towards the end of August, although unlikely. Very average rainfall totals probable by the end of August.

As for thunderstorms, forecasting them in the long-range is pretty much entirely guesswork. Even forecasting them a day in advance is hard enough.
