not unusual early to mid June, seas still cold, air still cool after winter/Spring, summer does not really get going until during Wimbledon at the earliest

It is very unusual for this area. I am just 97asl. We have not had such low overnight temps in early June for at least 12 years - the time I have lived here.

What an odd day.

Here we are, nearly halfway through June, with a massive area of HP smack-bang over the UK, and it was cloudy, breezy and bloody chilly!

It will be worth going to Cosford Airshow on Sunday, though. As RAF Waddington doesn't have a show this year, Cosford is getting some proper military hardware doing displays!

the thing is, it's not over us, its to the north west, dragging in cloud and a cold NE wind

Very disappointing temperatures. I can cope with the cold so long as skies are clear and it's dry.

Hopefully these storms on thurs/fri will make the cold spell worth while, I could do with some excitement.

We must have had 30 hours of sunshine since Sunday, yet it's barely got above 15C. Unbelievable for June, more like late March.

As for this heat on Friday, will it be a 25C and bang or an 18C damp squib like most plumes are these days? I really can't be doing with a summer of SE-v-the rest nonsense.

Let's hope so!

That chart looks mightily close though. Same story as in the winter for us West Midlanders, right on the edge...are we able to squeeze in on the action?

Just the wrong side of marginal here currently in my location. Hopefully not, but this one will slip out the way to the south and leave us with some heavy rain for a short period.

Agreed  :)  Cape values were further south on yesterday's 12/18z , now they are making there way further North showing in today's GFS

Could be Interesting in looking at tomorrows charts, with the humid air coming up from the south and hopefully let the heat build during the day

and you never know some home grown thunderstorms may pop up almost anywhere.

But as we all know it's all about timing and cloud cover .....25c would be nice.... then :bomb::D

Are we looking towards the Bristol Channel for any potential storms as we have done over the past couple of summers?

Storm likelihood downgrades in Midlands (and for other areas to a lesser extent). The CAPE and LI is expected to be alot lower than forecasted yesterday, although high enough for storms, HOWEVER, the precipiatation is due to arrive when these values decrease, therefore storms may be less severe or just rain.

Shock horror storm risk basically vanished completely now moved even further south overnight, but of course the weekend washout still centered at it's worst right over Shropshire

Need to see a miracle on the next GFS run and push Friday's possible storm chance further North (particularly if it's the weather you're after). Though I think as Supacell and Surrey suggested in the Storm and Convective Discussion thread, it will be one of those now-casting situations. You never now, Friday could just surprise those in here wanting storms. But I suppose, at the same time, it probably wouldn't be worth filling your hopes up too much in case not much happens. It's quite possible, though, that the Cold Front pushing up from the South later tomorrow could help trigger some storms and areas of thundery rain, particularly for Southern/South-Western areas of the region, as it runs into the warmer air over Southern UK.
