There could well be thundery activity for some of us later today, judging by the forecasts. Showers are already starting to bubble up across the region.

This is a new thread to chat about the weather in the Midlands. Please continue ya posts and discussions in here. :)

Does look as though there will be some heavy showers going on a mission to pound areas of the Midlands with rain, hail and, as Bishop Brennan noted, perhaps even some thunder - all thanks to an unstable, cool, Polar Maritime flow.

(Edit: Have moved today's post into here, so apologies for the slight mess).

I get to see the shower (hoping for storm) clouds drift across Northants (from South in MK) today.

Fingers crossed for more interesting ones.

Nothing here yet. A few squally showers. Looks like better action is currently east of here.

Since 0900 g.m.t it's been mostly dry here although we've just had a short moderate shower in the last few minutes.

It's decidedly chilly when the showers come along; the current temp' is 6.0c.

Well.

I was hoping to experience some decent exciting weather today. Living in Telford, working in the West Mids, and had an early site visit in Northamptonshire.

One half decent heavy shower, no hail or thunder, for about 10 minutes in Wolves,

I am disappoint.

Yup to be honest losing the will to even comment this month now, feels like went straight from April into November.

Might get a one day sunny wonder Thursday then back into cloudzilla again.

A marked difference in shower activity between the western and eastern side of the Peak yesterday.

The Buxton area had over 30 mm of rain ( midnight to midnight) whereas here I recorded about 7mm over the same period.

*sigh* Despite a brighter day forecast it's completely overcast and howling a steady 20mph icy north westerly through the Cheshire Gap, over it.

So much for the saying that north or North westerly winds always deliver sunshine. Cool uppers and strong sunshine don't mix well at this time of year. Bring back the southerlies. This may has been cold, no argument against it.

Sun has been showing its face this afternoon, but yet again it can't warm the air because of that wind. It might as well be February with the sun being too weak to do anything. Rained for a bit this morning.

Yup sun still not out here, not come out once in fact, satellite seems to show a relentless stream of stratocumulus piling in here.

Strange as BBC and GFS had skies clearing this afternoon.

Another chillly night with a low of 2.4C. Looking good now with clear skies and sunshine. Should beat yesterday's high of 14.6C.

Looks like May has kicked November away from parts of the Midlands today (and hopefully for those where the cloud has been, or still seems to be, a menace). Generally sunny at the moment with odd little patches of cloudzillaettes (baby cloudzillas) around. Temperatures quite respectable with it close to approaching 18*C.

No showers here, but that pesky wind has picked up again. Only 16.5 C which is a bit disappointing considering it was 15 at noon- obviously a warm day this month just means one that gets near the average May high.
