Have to feel sorry for those spending their half-term holiday on the coast.  Looking at the maximum temperatures from Fylingdales and Loftus Samos the mean maximum temperature for the last 10 days (24 May to 2 June) has been only 10.7C at both stations.  For comparison the mean maximum for the whole of December was 10.5C at Fylingdales and in the 10 day period up to Christmas (16th to 25th Dec) the mean maximum was 11.4C at Fylingdales and 10.9C at Loftus - So It is as cold as Christmas!

The day started out much the same as the last 3 days, cloudy, dry and cold winds, but by midday the winds seems to die back some and the temperature was creeping up to 15C by lunchtime. Even that was warmer than the last 3 days!

A warm and muggy start with a light shower just before mid morning. After lunch the cloud started to break up to give some sunny periods into the evening from lunchtime onwards. There was also a stiff breeze from time to time from the south west, but at least we had  some warm sunshine.

The day started with no wind, and some warm early morning sunshine. By mid morning the wind had increased and was cloudy. Later afternoon saw some brightness with hints of sun. A dissapointing day considering the hype.

Nice sunny start to the day in Skipton with cloudless skies and light wind. Should reach 21c around here at least today. Generally ,Central Northern England, including the Dales have not done so bad this summer compared to many areas further South. Here for another week in lovely Skipton then rest of the summer in Austrian Alps, hopefully not as hot as last year over there 1

Just saw your post... I know it was a few weeks ago. It seems to have been a cold late spring/early summer on the coast, lots of sea fret, and wet days. There have been days where we have had sea fret and 10C at the coast and 20 miles inland its been fine sunny and 16-18C. around here we always suffer when we have easterly (NE, E, SE) winds at this time of year, North Sea hasnt warmed up. This week we have had more normal weather with westerlies, sunny spells and warmer, and missed the downpours that other parts have had.

Well we missed out again here, no storm but a very heavy shower around 5-30pm. Looks like Beverley saw a thunderstorm and some heavy rain judging by the radar.

Sky looked threatening, but a damp squib

Thunderstorms over the Pennines later on tonight, with more forecast tomorrow afternoon - isolated on the whole but those who do get one will know about it, with no real focus on prime locations for tomorrows storms.

(Info from Look North)

well, it went really dark here and the radar showed some really bright colours intensifying just as it arrived.

I thought we were in for at least a rumble or 2, but nope, just some heavy rain. I hate it when it's like this!  :wallbash:

Bring back the sun! :D

what a difference a day makes!

yesterday the 2 queens were sat watching the rain (they very rarely get close to each other)

now they're out sunning themselves and I've got the washing out to dry

question is, what were they talking about while the rain fell? :cc_confused:

We had a shocking 35mm here yesterday! Very much needed though :)

Looking forward to a chilly evening tonight after a few mild nights, could see 8/9c overnight which will make sleeping alot easier and feel much fresher in the morning.

Currently 19c, gentle breeze and lots of sunshine, perfect!

A day of contrast today with a sunny morning and then now we have an almighty deluge.

The temp fell to 8.9c this morning and there was a lovely inversion with fog/mist in the valleys but it quickly warmed up with the max temp being 20.4c at 11.30am.
