Morning Chaps and chapessess,

Comparing where the precipitation is right now according to netweather radar, there is a profound difference to what the 00z Arpege predicted in relation to easterly progress and now..and southerly progress too...  im preeeeetty sure large parts of Yorkshire will see snow today.. perhaps earlier than expected too ..

It looks to me as though South Yorkshire will just be too far East for any snow later looking at the current track on the radar.  West Yorkshire might luck out though.

Happy to be proved wrong of course!

Yes, it looks like the snow band will hit the Pennines/Peaks and go no further east.  That block already pushing it.

Hi all, my partners daughter has just asked an interesting question that I really cannot answer and thought maybe one of you might have the answer!

She asked about hail vs snow: what makes something fall as hail instead of snow when they are both cold lol. What happens in the air to make the difference? :)

I think Hail can only form in thunderstorms or Cumulonimbus clouds

6z ARPEGE run shows the snow for today really missing our region as its shoved west. Maybe some in Hebden Bridge, but that is about it.

What is interesting though is that it doesn't have snow for Monday at all, instead it comes on Tuesday and hits us smack bang on. Really different than any other run has shown so far but is one to watch.

I really think I will be too far east on this occasion to see anything.

Still hold out hope for next week though!

Any lucky sods that catch some snow today...enjoy! :)

Still a lot of energy being slammed into that leading front though.  Next few hours are going to be nail biting.

i remain very optimistic the sweetspot will be further east than manchester

If you take a look here...http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ the 12.08pm forecast and then compare that with the radar as it stands, theres a very obvious eastward push...

BBc for example have the front pushing no further inland than Glasgow, whereas on radar... its pushing into Edingborugh.

i think an adjustment of 30 to 40miles east is in the offing here... http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=radar;sess=  :)

Agreed, optimistically we may get a few flurries from the leading edge, pessimistically it will hit the hills and fade out.

Think Manchester is the sweet spot today think it will stall over Lancashire looking at the latest bbc weather on news 24.

Edingborough about to get a pasting... and not even under a yellow warning...

it seems to me modeliing has understimated the eastern extent of the front ..

check this out agains current radar... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=6&lon=-4.72&lat=54.54&fcTime=1452902400&regionName=yh

Buxton, Leek , high peak looks like the sweet spot for me , west Sheffield ,Stocksbridge etc might be on the edge - the front will bump right up to the cold air , let's see who wins out  , MOGREPS / BBC don't often get this wrong

Will be in our region now at High Bentham / Kirby Longsdale. Wasn't predicted to snow there at all based on the 6z runs so its definitely going significantly eastward.

Just looking at the NMM its 6z run has it not even making landfall until 1600 yet it has easily already and is well inland due to its significantly further east than predicted. Really is a Radar / Lamp post watching event.

To add further IF it carries on this track expect Western West Yorkshire and Sheffield to get hit, hard, temps permitting of course.

Front slowing in easterly progress as it starts to interact with the hills, bugger.
