Heavy shower of hail, one of my colleagues reported flash of lightning. Sorry, no camera :(

Had thunder and lightning with heavy hail  about 2.15 pm lit up the tractor cab.

No thunder in the north-west but some really dramatic cloudscapes as I drove home this afternoon. Spectacular especially over the Pentland Firth.

Much calmer on the Black Isle than on the north coast.  Also rather less cold!  Beans outside still struggling to take off but brassicas have done ok this week.

You mean the op goes a bit screwy? Certainly temps that high are not very welcome.

Hi folks...

It never rains but it pours.....and unfortunately I'm not talking about the weather.

Young Dr(s)No went in for scopes today before we go to a hospital down south for specialist help on his condition.

Although initially they've gone well ...he's ended up with really bad bleeding and,to cap it off, he's ended up being sick( first time in months!!) and it looks as though the scope may have flared up his gut!! Unbelievable!!

Now looks like he may not be able to go to the specialist after all and a postponement looks odds on..

Apologies for the non weather related post....but hey , it's good to talk

If you you can spare a thought for the wee man it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

DR(S) NO

Catch, are you going to post the equivalent charts for the GFS 18z.... Aye, thought not ;)

DR(S)NO - sorry to hear that. (Unfortunate) news like that puts everything into perspective. I suppose many people (on here anyway) immerse themselves in the weather as a hobby and also as a release, a distraction from rather more serious or high pressured situations that engulf their daily lives.

In times such as you are currently experiencing, I hope you too find a release (in some form/capacity) which enables you to keep optimistic and 'seizing the day' inspite of rather testing headwinds to put it mildly.

Keep the head up.

My thoughts go out to you and if there is a supreme being up there, then I hope it can grant you a bit of positive news.

SWS, I take it the 18z looked like this, words fail me again. Biggest temperature flip-flop I've ever seen (previous chart posted second):

Dr(S)No: Really sorry to hear this. Quacks can be more bother than help at times. Fingers crossed for all of you. I worry about my kids over small, silly things so I can't even begin to imagine what you go through all of the time. I'll be thinking about you :)

Dr(S)No We are all thinking of you. If it is of any consolation we met some superbly able medics along the way with young Mr. Northernlights before his kidney transplant. And to give you hope at his last check up the lady consultant asked him if was into bodybuilding and he replied that the muscular frame he now has was just down to working on the farm!!!!!

And the weather its cool wet and currently 5c standard May fair

Yes it did haha. Huge thunder risk (particularly over me - not going to verify) as well. Bare in mind the GFS regularly under does maxes, I've never seen anything above 27c I don't think for my location predicted by the GFS, yet recorded comfortably 3c more.

So 25c (ie 27/28 maybe), incredibly humid and thunderstorms would be a sight to behold here, more like Miami than Scotland

I wouldn't rule it out, the ECM looks pretty tasty too. I'm off to work in 5 mins so don't have time to post charts, but it looks like something's brewing. The GFS-ECM 8 to 10 Day charts look pretty good too for some proper heat to get pumped up off the continent. I'd rather have hot with thunderstorms than hot and dry, it's far more interesting.

No rest for the wicked....

Aye, fingers crossed. Tbh, 20c would feel warm given recent weather. Nevermind approaching 30 or conditions which felt like 30+ ie 25c, cloudy, humid, oppressively close.

I still think things will be toned down to a extent but I do begin to wonder myself as the charts are refusing to back off. Some astounding heat/possible thunder charts from friday onwards..........................

True NUT, I'm on my phone so can't copy and paste summer sun's post.

He has posted the charts for next Friday/Sat/Sun.

Friday is cool at 14c here (7c dew point), Saturday showed 15c and I was thinking that's a bit low but then I realised that was the dewpoint... Low-mid twenties by then (feeling very warm with that dewpoint). Sunday has predicted few points of 19c! A max of 25/26c.

The predicted difference is quite astounding over next weekend. Average weather will quickly become almost intolerably hot (not that I'm complaining, but it's hardly a gradual change).

Morning all,

Partly cloudy with some sunny intervals, cool again at 12c.

Certainly some interesting charts on offer at the end of the week. I'll be in France by then (hopefully in warm sunshine) but will be interested to see how things develop back home. One word of caution for east coasters though: some of these charts scream haar to me with moist, humid air over a chilly North Sea. Fingers crossed any plume-like warmth comes from the south rather than SE.

Best wishes to Dr (S)NO.

If you like heat then France will be great but I think I may find it too hot tbh. Looks really hot over there (depends where you are going I suppose).

I'd agree re East coast Haar. Devil in the detail though

We in the NE Scotland used to get the haar, then occasionally a thundery spell which lifted the haar slightly, then when the storm cleared through back to the haar as it closed in again! Was excitingly eerie - or eerily exciting ! :D

Some real good charts coming out now and for us too for a change! I really hope we get to experience the big storms that come with the heat because in my opinion, a warm/hot spell is not complete without a good old storm with the thunder rattling the windows! :D

South of France. It does look quite hot but I'm a warm weather fan! Actually my only objection about the Scottish climate is the lack of dependable warmth in the summer, especially balmy evenings with the temperature still in the mid 20s!

Anyway, an interesting week ahead! Turned out quite pleasant here in Crail this afternoon, sun has come out and temperature up at 16c.

Has rained more or less all day so good day for cleaning out the folds  by hand in the corners the loader can"t reach  nice and cool as well currently 12c and drying up a bit. If the weather does turn warmer next week not good for heavy labour jobs better to  be sitting in a tractor with aircon!!!

I'm away to China and Japan this summer! I'll give updates as I go along, but I'm guessing 35'C+ high humidity with lows of 20'C might be a challenge!

I can imagine!

If your on holiday it's different but to be doing moderately strenuous activity or above is horrendous.

I remember going to the Greek Island of Thassos and the company we were with said the week we were there averaged 41c with a major heatwave being declared.

When I arrived on the Sunday it was 31c, Monday was also about 32/33, it was only after an incredible thunder storm early Tuesday morning that was a warm front (a warm front from a 33c max...).

So one can only wonder why temps were experienced over the next 4/5 days to get the average max up to 41c...

We tried to play table tennis at 9am one morning and we were drenched in sweat and I usually don't noticeably perspire with exercise.

Ok ish for beach, pool, eat in the shade but even that at temperatures approaching 45 (more like 50 as I've been in mid 40s) was becoming difficult. It was also VERY humid, especially in the mornings and late evenings.

Quite an experience.

I was in Venice when they had a big heatwave in 2006. 43c. Not fun for trying to sight see. All got a headache and ended up arguing haha.

So all in all, good luck with your respective journeys!

Another wet cold miserable morning currently 6.5c.My agronomist was telling me yesterday that winter oilseed rape has suffered  moderate forst damage  this spring with lots of empty pods but has recently started to produce more flowering stems to try and set pods again. This is turning into a challenging spring .Just going out now to top up the cattle feeders when grass alone should be growing fast enough to supply all their needs.
