Been quite threatening cloud NW thru N around Aberdeen for a wee while now, but virtually no precip from them so far. Heating's on though!

Looking at the radar have we got ourselves a wee polar low? There's a circle of strong convective showers with some lightning activity near Inverness, with a clear 'eye' in the middle of it and a hint of rotation on the Netweather 5minute radar. Looks like CairnGorm Mountain is about to get slammed shortly!

 

Yeah, see what you mean. Radar was showing us in rain until a short while ago but can assure you it's snow, and here at sea level. Could be interesting driving conditions for my commute north later.  Haven't heard any rumbles...

Jeez. Full on snow. Epic. Winter tyres in the back of the garage

Dryer snow now, currently 2c and because the weather was so good never got time to get winter tyres changed!!!! Cows and calves ran in about an hour ago when young Mr. Northernlights opened the field gates. Will be quite happy to be in folds tonight judging by the radar

Snowing here too now! Temp 2.5/0.7C currently. Started off quite heavy sleet and then turned to full on wet snow in huge flakes. Trying to lie on the grass but will struggle.

I was wrong, the snow is now lying on the grass, fences etc. 

 

 

Actually it now thicker than those pictures show but it seems to be getting brighter out.

Half crown flakes in old money settling and getting white now 1c .What a switch round,cattle all sitting on fresh straw smiling watching snow fall .Maybe be the old farmer knew something

More snow than I've had all through winter 14/15 and that's just a light dusting!

Well the snow from earlier melted pretty sharpish once it stopped. Then it came back again with a vengeance. Temp now 0.9/LL.L. About as good as I've seen it here all winter.

Snowing too here in Balmedie right on the coast. Most snow we have seen all winter!

Assuming the photo is on the device you are trying to post from, select 'More Reply Options' under the edit box,  then 'choose file',  then 'Attach This File', then something like add to message I think.

Was a nice day in Glasgow today rather cold but was mainly dry and turned into a lovely evening.. Big difference in the north and northeast Scotland..

A reminder winter can quickly bite back in Scotland at this time of year. A major switcharound event, some parts of the Highlands basked in maxes approaching 70f on Wednesday whilst today struggled to get above 1 degree!

 

A notably late snowfall.

 

Here we managed a very light hail shower today and nothing else.

Unexpected wee sleet flurry earlier this morning, and not a warm day by any stretch. Clear and cold now.

Escaped the worst of the chill and almost all the showers here, Max was 11.4c so close to average. Far milder than most of Scotland: http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/pmextremes.html

Cold now though at just 1.8c!

Almost the coldest night of the 2014/15 season here in Crail @ -2.2c. Coldest reading all winter was -2.6c which puts it in perspective.
