The 27 opening partnership was the highest of the series by either team!!!

Burns gone for 47 England going steady so far 103-2

They could put themselves in a decent position to draw the series if they can see out today

just when you think it culdn't get any worse for the test team, they're now getting rolled over by a part time medium pacer....pathetic....this is what happens when you paper over the cracks with stupid selection decisions.......they're simply not good enough

the barmy army should stop booing Warner & Smith and start on our batsmen, they deserve it...on a flat wicket, they simply don't have the technique and mental strength to succeed, they are utterly spineless

I have just read that since he came back into the test team at the start of the 2018 series Buttler is the second top test run scorer for England behind Root and has the second most 50+ scores too.

He gets some unnecessary criticism and, like today, has often ended up shepherding the tail.

Not sure why the Aussie captain put England in the first place? It was looking like a poor decision at one stage.

Perhaps because he's knows we're not very good???

is it my imagination or has Dave done very little? surprised Aussies picked him, a player I have heard of and think is good is Aaron Finch, no sign of him

That's why I said someone ' like'   Sir Geoffrey...

He had/ has many critics but to face the great  WI teams , with no head gear/ limited protection  and  still stay, very brave cricketer imo.

Warner scored a lot of runs in the World Cup. Finch played tests during the banning period of Warner, Smith and Bancroft but wasn’t much use.

To put a side in and not bowl them out on the first day and they have scored 250+, is IMO, a poor decision, if there  have not been any weather interventions. They didn't help themselves by being sloppy in the field.

Some will argue, England shouldn't be bowled out for 280 on that wicket, I would argue if the wicket is that good then why didn't the Aussies bat first?

TI have tickets for the 5th day... I am hoping to get some play lol. 30-50 more runs frustrating the ausies would be beautiful. These wickets this summer have not been betters. Indifferent bounce and pace on all of them. Think honestly we paid for a wet June in preparing the pitches which would have suited us. None of the pitches have been true belters. Look at this track there is more green tinged on it than I have ever seen on an oval pitch.

Final point. 4 years ago we set our stall out to win the world cup. Job achieved. Root Bairstow woakes roy stokes butler all played on that squad. It was a 2 month competition played at the highest level of white ball cricket. Not making an excuse but there is a significant difference to when 6 of your players and Ali to the final. The ultimate high to the ashes I challenge anyone to stand up to that pressure. I do believe you can't have one coach for both formats. If you take a look back at history ausies have been continual winners of the world cup. I think if my memory serves me right they lost the ashes in 1987 at home then went onto win the world cup in november

Blimey, a really good review from Root...slips didn't seem that interested but he sent it up stairs and there was a faint snick, Warner gone, fair play Root !

1900 runs in 36 tests at an average of 33 with just the one century and he's a specialist batsman?....no wonder england's batting is frail if that's the benchmark for a specialist batsman.....the problem with Buttler is that he can only really play one way and has a loose defensive technique (he doesn't know where his off stump is) and has been found out under pressure from this Australian attack
