Despite hating the heat, let's smash the record!

I can't help but feel that the cloud cover might scupper any record breaking. Have seen temperatures plateau after 12pm on several occasions. Don't forget that the rise in temperature will also slow considerably around 35C. Further - I feel like the Wimbledon record isn't a cert by any means. N/NW London may well be a good 2/3 degrees hotter than SW19.

My call is for somewhere to tip into 36C but no further.

People who can't stand the heat should come here to near the coast. We had a min last night of 14.1C and its only 23.2C at the moment.

Still, despite my hate of heat it would have been nice to hit an extreme temp for once. The fact we haven't hit 30C for 14 years says it all though, very difficult to achieve.

The temperature at Heathrow Airport has apparently dropped to 32C. I think at 11am it was 33C. This is all according to Netweather's Top 20.

Heathrow now at 31.5C and not 34.1C. Has it clouded over there?

Increasing cloud is reversing temperature rise at Heathrow. Thunderstorms approaching SW England. Peter

Back to blue skies here - should be clearing up nearer London within an hour or so. Looks like cloud is impacting less further east, so Gravesend could overtake London before too long

Why is it whenever we get a really warm day we get a load of cloud and wind with it. Went out an hour ago and it felt extremely warm in the sun, albeit the wind. Now it's just clouded over and am getting 25mph gusts. Happens everytime.

If the cloud had stayed away we'd be in for some record temps, not now.

Wimbledon has seen 34.3C recorded already today. Only 0.3C away from the 1976 record. Cooler now I suspect with that cloud moving through London. Still a chance over the next two hours if the sun holds out for long enough...

Heathrow is at 35.3C and rising, very close to their all-time July record

EDIT

â€@metoffice

Heathrow has now recorded a temperature of 35.7°C. The hottest July on record was 36.5°C in 2006

SS - That puts Heathrow at 11th on the all-time list. How far up it will we go??

Edit: Up to 36.2C!! (BBC weather twitter) that's 7th hottest day ever ... and just 0.3 from the July record now...

Its 36.2C at Heathrow now, so the July record could well go today.

Boo. Sustained spells like 90 and 06 are far more deserving of record breaking.

Agreed. The 35C heat seems very localised in London, surely the UHI has pushed it over.
