About 25 years ago I was hillwalking the Nevis range with school. Roasting hot with not a drop of snow in sight.

Global warming was all the rage then....

Yes further snow forecast tonight at modest levels as well.

This afternoons showers were lying down to around 2000 feet later this afternoon in some parts as far South as Perthshire. A good bit of later  tomorrow's rain will give early Summer new snow to many parts of the Highlands given altitude.

Memories can be unreliable. No matter how warm the winter/spring, Nevis is never even remotely close to snowless in late May.

Gary Hodgson's pic of Ben Nevis today. About a foot of fresh, and same forecast for next 36 hours. Strewth.

Amazing sight for summertime. We have a Ben Nevis in Tasmania, it's roughly the same height. This picture was mistakenly showed on national breakfast television attached to a story about a recent snowy change which we've just had. Perhaps the word strewth hoodwinked the production crew or it got placed in a Tasmania twitter feed. it really is an amazing summertime sight there, we would love to get this in winter.

Hi Polar Maritime, yes it was very noticeable the snow on the higher peaks. Flying back from Vancouver (YVR) to (LWG) on Friday morning, had a good view, even at 41,000 feet above Western Scotland, snow cover was pronounced on the summits to the east of the flight plan especially on Ben Nevis. Looked like more snow on the Grampian Range than parts of the Rockies, especially the Coastal Range and The Cascades in British Columbia that recorded a poor snow season last winter.

Two pics from Ben Wyvis, y'day, showing that even in June you should stay *well* away from unstable cornices. Yikes.

Amazing to see the snow holding on in such abundance it appears in the last 6 plus years Scottish slopes misfortune has totally reversed.

Have to say there have been very few years that I have looked across the Firth to the NW at Ben Wyvis with so much snow left in mid June and remarkably the last snow on some hills  only about 10 miles to the west of me at about 1500 feet only disappeared round the 1st  of June something I have never seen before. The cooler Atlantic certainly helped to give a lot of late winter snow on SW and W winds, again unusual.

You never know when you will find a snowpatch. Here is one from Claggan just South of Loch Tay this week at around 700 mtrs asl. This can only be seen from right on it.
