Outgoing winter proves warmest in Russia in history of weather monitoring

If it's tied in with the settled pattern over the U.S. these past few years then we might be looking at a better crack at summer with the Jet staying well north and petering out before hitting russia ( leaving it under a continental high all summer!)

Winter 2015/16 getting off to a good start in Russia? This from the Meteo-France website today (as part of an article about early cold impacting France):

....cold was gradually installed over western Russia between 5th and 7th October. It snowed in Moscow on the 7th in the evening. Between the 8th and 10th, the air mass advanced into eastern Europe, with low temperatures in south-west Russia to Poland and daily frosts, sometimes severe (temperatures below -5 ° C). It achieved -5.9° C on the 10th in Volgograd, a new cold record for early October.

The Temp Anomaly animation for 5th - 13th Oct that Meteo-France posted:

The snow has gotten off to an incredible start in Siberia, where a record snowfall has paralyzed many areas of the city of Omsk, with thousands of drivers hopelessly stuck in hellish snowstorm traffic for hours.

I stumbled across this video before, of a frightening hailstorm that struck Novosibirsk in July 2014. Quite a long time ago, but a very awe-inspiring video:

Wow. Might as well have been a storm of bricks!

Moscow has had its heaviest snowfall in 100 years, with a month's worth of snow falling in just two days.

At least one person has died.
