Just on the western flank of the showers heading north and have some moderate rain currently. not much lightning in this shower activity looking at radar though.

18z GFS showing CAPE of around 800-900 j/kg well in to the + of LI though which I don't understand? I was always told if LI was in to + figures forget it.. But is that the case?

All lightning strikes are over the coast or at sea though and not many.

The lifted index is at relatively small positive values so I think other factors can come into play including the potential energy in the surrounding environment which can outweigh those values.

Have those Russian bombers that have sporadically been buzzing our southern coast just let the nukes go?

It's my turn :D Pretty good fireworks going off down there. Better than an Independence Day BBQ in the back garden. Shame the resolution isn't a bit better.

Love it!!

Currently strikes per min is 53!!!!!

Looks to have a slight NNE drift to this storm, looks like I may miss out

Net Weather radar lightning detector seems to be broken. Am seeing good lightning to the W/SW and some thunder audible.

Just had the sound of a passing pulse of heavy rain falling nearby but not over my house/garden.

hmm I have a feeling it is edging slightly eastwards as that cold front kills it from the southwest as time moves on. I don't think the fronts have been delayed just the ppn didnt kick off as early as forecasters expected and maybe we now have smaller window for storms and less widespread perhaps.  My guess would be it intensifies enough for wilts and Gloucester to maybe see a few rumbles in north east of region before turning into a real storm in midlands, north etc.

Constant lightning and thunder approaching from the south down here. Might have to go inside in a bit.

Literally shaking. This should make the news tomorrow. Unbelievable non stop lightning, crashing thunder and blinding rain. Loads of Cloud to ground. The trip to Poole paid off!

My goodness, never seen lightening like this, just constant with thunder too and torrential rain. Dog is panting and perrified! Thought we would miss it all!
