February 1902: cold

Recommended Posts

The start of February 1902 started with an intense record breaking anticyclone just to the NE of Scotland with a cold easterly flow. This was the start of a very cold period as the anticyclone drifted and became established over Greenland. The cold spell lasted until the last week of February when it became milder.

Frosts were frequent for many places, as much as 24 were recorded in one one or two places during the month.

Number of frosts

Rendlesham Hall: 24

Bury St Edmunds: 22

Church Stretton: 21

Stroud: 20

Manchester: 18

Camden Square: 16

Torquay: 9

Snowfalls occurred, some of the most disruptive were in the Liverpool/Manchester regions.

CET for month was 1.5C
